sub expense

by luvmyfrogs, Jul 28, 2008 10:29PM
being here for several months, and able to stop abusing my doc by the grace of god and some close freinds i take my meds as directed. i have noticed some people have gone the sub route, knowing a freind of mine who wants to take suboxne but is worried about the price. i told him about this web site and also the suboxne web site. i havent seen anyone talk about the price of treatment. say you find a sub dr. make a appointment, say this dr accepts your insurance does it cost like a base treatment amount? or is it like a reg dr app.? do you call these dr's on the list and just say you want to make a appointment for suboxne treatment..i have a freind who started sub 2 months ago but her primary care doctor just got certifed so i think she just goes there once a month gets her script and it is just a regular visit charge. also if you get help with the suboxne does it go on your record as drug depend treatment? like if you were filling out a insurance form or job app. and the question was have you ever been treated for a addiction would you say yes? My friend has been asking me to help him so im doing all i can.. any info would be great.. thank you all...

It's a big step and an expensive one. These doctors don't know that much about this drug and they seem to keep people on it too long then you have a worse addiction in some cases. I'm told it's very expensive and mostly out of pocket payments.

mo9st insurances do not cover suboxone treatment and it can get very expensive.  the dr. my daughter uses is truely awesome.  i hope it works out for your friend.

thanks, what i did do was look in his insurance providers book and found a few of our local sub dr.;s were on the list in his insurance book so would they take his insurance for treatment? also we looked up his co pay for suboxne and it was 50.00 for a month. i know i should just have him call these dr's and ask. i thought i would check here just for some basic info.. does anyone know how expensive?

I started suboxone before i had insurance so im screwed with that whole "Pre-existing condition" ****. But anyway.

I had to pay an Intake fee of $500 to see the doc and get inducted on sub, then $150 a month after for monthly visits and my meds were costing roughly $6/8mg tablet, when I dropped to the 2mg tabs they are even more expensive $8/pill

Yikes!

Like mentioned above...most insurance does not cover sub but some do...if filed on ur insurance it would be the diagnosis of drug abuse as it is not approved for pain relief in the USA....my friend went for an initial visit and all in all it was about 600 bux/meds included...it would only be like 200 bux for the follow up every month unless a urinalysis is done, then u have to pay for that..that is in florida and i do hear different prices from people on the forum so it is probably wise to shop around....if u did not file it on ur insurance then it would not be documented anywhere as drug abuse...unless a physician for some reason ran a check on ur pharmacy records...which they can do if they want to but it is highly unusual

thanks for the info, sounds very expensive but of course using and abusing is very expensive too.. we live in florida and i have noticed there are alot of us here on this site.. maybe instead of the sunshine state maybe we should be called the prescription drug abuse state.. im just kidding, i remember i always had pain meds left over after a surergy or such when i lived in ca.. but once i got out here in fl it was like the pills made me feel way to good...maybe its in the air... anyone have any more info on the expense of sub treatment plz let me know... thank you all..  stay strong..diane

Sub saved many of our lives.

so the question is: if your friend has tried other things, and can't get clean... what price is their life worth?

i bet their spending as much on pills...

so, if they CAN somehow manage to afford it, NOT doing it (if all other routes are tried - and failed) then the cost is an excuse not to get clean.  they're not ready.

you're ready when you're ready.

that's really the bottom line...

by mr.lucky66, Jul 30, 2008 08:25AM
Don't give it that much power as a "life saver" it just a drug and a tool and I'm afraid a lot of docs are getting rich on it.

well, to each his own.... can only speak from experience.

Hi, I was wondering if you have had a bad experience with sub?  Everytime someone mentions is or asks questions you always talk about how terrible it is and that Doctors are just trying to get rich.  I am a suboxone user myself and it has been a lifesaver.  My doctor is extremely compassionate.  I don't think you should be dogging all doctors and scaring new people away from something that may be their last chance.  Sorry, but just MHO.

No, I never had a bad experience with sub buy have known many who have had some bad experiences. I think it's great when used for short detox and have seen it work many times for a week or less. I don't like the untested long term sub unless it's for methadone withdrawl. I see too many cases of docs whoare giving this open ended sub therapy to addicts and really don't know what to expect. I would almost rather people go on methadone. Bottom line is I was an addict who suffered a lot detoxing many many times from a variety of narcotics including methadone. I don't like to see people suffer needlessly.
