I can drink normally on suboxone as well. I used to drink quite a bit (about 6-8 beers a night) and now I drink only on the weekends with no problem). Although I never considered my self an alcoholic, the suboxone certainly helps with the urge to drink and actually inhibits me from getting to intoxicated and fiending for opitates like I used to. It's weird! When I take suboxone and drink and even if I get drunk I don't want any opiates which was impossible before I started taking the suboxone. It's good for many thing and helps you truly get your life back together!
I seem to be able to drink like a normal person on the buprenorphine. I know that's weird but true.
Not that I have ever heard of. However Naltrexone is used for alcoholism. I would thing they would deter from using a narcotic to keep someone from drinking. that would just be creating a new addiction to another substance. Naltrexone works on the neurotransmiiters. I believe the brand name is Revia.
i can not tell you for sure. previous to this detox i was on sub for 2 years - - i don't think sub is intended for alcohol at all. purely opiate addictions, i am pretty sure anyway. and sub is addictive in its own sense - - so even if you were to get some posative effects i think it is a bad idea.
there is a drug that i tried once called campral (spelling) which helps alot. you can drink a beer, you can order a second even - - you just won't like it that much. i can't explain it. maybe you can search it out on the web or talk to a dr about it further. and i think there are more extreme drinking prescriptions, like you will get pysically sick or such - - but i don't know for sure.
hope this helps. i am sure others know more...
