suboxone conflict

I have read a lot of posts here and seem to get conflicting comments about suboxone.  Some say it was a life saver and others say it was worse to kick than vicodin.  I just started taking it yesterday and am confused about all of the controversy.  I don't want to be in worse shape down the line but my doctor assured me that he would be able to taper me off of the sub when the time comes.  I was very addicted to vicodin and tried ct many times tried tapering many times and kept going back.  I could really use some feedback about this treatment from anyone that has been there done that.

With Suboxone, you need to decide if you need it just to get past the hard withdrawels of your doc, in which case you should use it only very short term. But if you have a history of relapses, longer use of Suboxone may be needed to break bad habits, retrain yourself and get counseling or support.
When useing Sub for longer term, you must tapper off it very slowly, getting down to just a crumb (.05 mgs or less), then takeing a crumb every other day, then every few days etc. If you stop the Sub at any higher dose you will experiance withdrawels. Clonodine can help any discomfort as you drop your doses. I have gone from 8 mgs to 4 mgs a day without any problems and will be dropping to 2 mgs soon. My sister, allaboutmary has gone from 8 mgs to 1 mg or less without any problems either.
When useing short term (10-20 days), you must remember, if you would normally suffer from certain leftover withdrawel symtoms from your doc for a month or 2 (lack of sleep, lack of energy, RLS) , when you stop takeing the Sub, you will still feel these symtoms. They aren't withdrawels from the Sub.
Most people that experiance extreme withdrawels from Sub have just stopped at to high a dose and did not tapper slow or low enough.
Hope this has helped answer your questions.

I used Suboxone and thought it was awesome! I have been clean from sub and everything else for 5wks now. If it was up to my Dr. I would still be on the sub. You can create a problem with suboxone though so I went ahead and lowerd my doses and got off of it. The pill works for 32 hours so I was able to go every other day at the end of my treatment. Some Doctors will leave patients on it for a long period of time and I think that really can create problems.

Good luck and we are all here for you.

Hi, I Believe that suboxne can really help you. From what I have personally witnessed the people who went through horrible withdrawals my two roomates were on it for five months Suboxne was originally meant for short term tapers but turned into maintnance treatment for some because people felt they needed to stay on it long term in order to change their lifestyles and lose their connections. See the thing suboxne is still a opiate and it can be very addictive. It also has a long half life and can stay n your system up to close to a month. It makes people feel great, extra energy, not depressed and motivated so it a high minus the euphoric feeling, this might be another reason for people wanting to stay on suboxne. When you finally do start to taper off it I suggest that you ask your doctor about anti depressant pills since the long term depression afterwards can be quite severe from I've witnessed. The official website for suboxne is SUBOXNE.COM You can read stories from people that suboxne has helped a lot as well as stories of how people felt after they tapered off following their doctors order''s to a T. You can also find a suboxne doctor on their, ask questions to experts and so on. Plese keep me updated on your progress
