I'm not suprised.  Wikepedia lists depression as one of the uses for Suboxone.  The pharmaceutical company marketed it for this.  Doctor's shouldn't be sued for practicing as their told.  Reckitt Benckiser should for not properly researching the long term effects of this stuff, and trying to make a buck.

My personal experience with the tapering from subutex/ suboxone as i have detoxed with both drugs, is that the shorter the taper roughly around 21- 30 days but that should be consulted, obviously.  Everyone's tolerance and WD's are different, but suboxone should NOT be given to someone for Anxiety or depression.  I have heard of it used for lyme disease to stop the tingles but not for that.  I'm sorry that doctor put you through that, you should consult with an Attorney.  Keep us posted

WOW OMG you should really consider suit against that doc.  So sorry to hear this. Honestly that doctor is dangerous and at the least you should report him.

Depression/anxiety are a huge part of sub withdrawal.  Ive withdrawan off of almost any opiate and with sub the depression and anxiety hit bad.

I think from what I have read the reason for this is because on short acting opiates (vicodin/hydro; percocet/oxy) they are in your system and out pretty quickly.  Hence why you build a tolerance, crave more and after a while start withdrawal a few hours after taking your dose until you take more.  Being fast acting and in and out quickly is still allowing you to produce some natural dopamine each day.  Your damaging your receptors but they are working a TINY bit on their own each day.

Being on suboxone (bupe) is long lasting.. 2mg can last up to 36 hours.  When you dose daily with suboxone, you are maintaining a CONSTANT stream of opiate.  There is NO down time.  Your natural dopamine receptors essentially stop working all together (there is no need for them, the bupe has flooded them and it doesnt go anywhere).

There is no easy way off sub.  The best way at this point if you are 18 months in is to continue a taper.. I know its not what you want to hear, but taper it slowly.  Try getting down to .25mgs or a tiny crumb or sliver of sub before you quit.  I quit at 1mg and it was the worst detox of my lfie.  Those people who get down to teeny tiny amounts have less of an intense detox.  Good luck.

OMG!  You weren't one any narcotics and given Suboxone for depression?  That sounds like blatant malpractice.  He had to have known he'd get you hooked -- only certain doctors are allowed to even prescribe Sub, they have to have special training.  I believe that's a federal law.  Can I ask what state u r from?

I was planning on going on sub for opiate wd, but after getting resonses from the great people here, I doubt I will.  If I do, I will only use small amounts and keep the use extremely short.

Feel free to pm me anytime

thanks for advice....Dr gave sub for depression and said it was not habit forming!   i was not taking any type of narc. when given this..had tried the usual stuff to ease the depr/anxie. so guess Dr thought this would help....help the profit margin.was first started on 12 mg....when i found out what sub is used for i told   dr i wanted to stop....was told to just quit,id have no w/d...that was an experience...think ill take vics when i taper till sub is out of system....if didnt hve depr/anx i mite be able to taper but i am afraid id be unable to deal with everything...tried it once and almost turned out the lights.the so called helping profession usually helps only their bottom line.thanks again for reading and your advice.....

There is no easy way out of addiction to narcotics..in fact there is really no real permanent way out...u can work hard and get urself clean//but it is ongoing to remain clean

I dont know ur original DOC nor dose..but often people r so afraid of wds they jump on sub/many need to do so///some for life as relapse occurs if they dont stay on a maintenence drug...there r not many studies on sub long term/ie over 5-10 yrs as it is relatively new compared to methadone

Unfortunately u r gonna feel yucky getting off..i hope when u went on this powerful narcotic that someone/ur DR/told u it was addictive and WDS r tough//but so wwere WDs from ur DOC I would imagine as it musta been a high dose of sumpin to send u to suboxone/subutex
6 mgs of sub is a strong dose in a way///it has a ceiling effect so in reality u could probably do 4 mgs and have no wds....some can get down to 2mgs..then the agony starts for a long term sub user/any narcotic is gonna hurt when u get down low enuf...and u r on a strong narcotic...now/if u want to stop it/u will have to go thru the wd process u avoided with sub/there is no easy way out..but u can put the balls in ur court and make a  plan/if u r ready to get off that sticky drug?

Read the thomas recipe and sub articles in the ealth pages..lots of info there/communicate with ur sub dr on ur plan...treat this as narcotic wd as that is what it is...the goal is to use sub while u do the inner work u ned to do and get heavy users off the street/and it is good for that vs buying heroin on the streets..what was ur DOC and dose before the sub?   there is some great info in the health pages...sub has to be a very slowly tapered///tapering down to slivers//but most feel the wd even then/ur DR can help u taper..include him in ur plan..but it is do-able and many have done it..read and learn...If u have been doing some type of aftercare, and u have help with this taper/and ready to get off/then u can/what u can and can not do is upstairs/this is 90% mental....fear of wds can parlyze people/have seen 40 mg hydro addicts go on sub and get stuck due to fear....u will live thru this...and keep posting..lots of support here..u r welcome to pm me anytime
