suboxone,methadone or weening

by steveo30, Dec 18, 2008 01:37PM
need your opinions.i have been trying to taper from10-10mg's of lortab,i'm down to 8 now but cant seem to go beyond that.i have a couple of options.should i try a methadone taper which used to be my drug of choice and said i would never do again,4 to 6 weeks to even start to feel better.i haven't taken meth for 11 months so i'm over that nightmare,or should i use the 15 n8's i have been saving.i;ve never done suboxone and i've heard alot of horror stories that go along with this drug,or should i try and continue tapering with the lortab, which is very hard for me.i think i know the responses i may get, but i need to hear your input and then make my decision and stick with it.i still drink about 8-10 beers a day and take 2 mg's of xanax a day.i haven't heard to many on this forum that have multiple addictions, can someone please help

so you want to start taking methadone to get off of lortab????

by liscamdave, Dec 18, 2008 01:47PM
NOOOO>..Do not go to methadone...NO WAY...its trading one addiction for another and its like trading a kitten for a lion. Please...just taper. If you do a proper taper, the w.d should be very minimal...Can you drop to 7. Are you taking them in the AM and PM or just once a day. Are you chewing, snorting or swalloing. If you can get yourself into a system and take them like say a dr would prescribe, you should be able to taper and drop. How are you taking them?

if methadone used to be your drug of choice then you know all about it, so why would you even consider starting on that?  i don't get it.  it's like the longest WD imaginable, well, except maybe Sub, from what i've heard.  wouldn't it be much much worse than the loritabs?

i had mult. addictions
my last detox in 2004, i had to rid my body of methadone,, herion and xanax
you can do this, i promise
the only suggestion i can give you is to goto na and quit all drugs
if you continue to drink and take pills xanax you will not be able to work on your issues
even with the opiates out of your system
most people in na have multiply addictions, thats why it is said that "we must abstain from all drugs in order to recover"
to learn more about the disease of addiction please google na basic text on line

Stevo -- you know what the consensus is on the site about you going from Hydro to Sub much less Methadone ---  Are you kidding me?   Man, you know both of those are far more addictive than Hydro ---  Yes, they will work -- either of them -- but you already know you are only going to trade one addiction for another ---  and when you do come off of Meth or Sub, the he!! you must endure will be 10 times worse than Hydro.  Come on Stevo -- it may be time to just 'Man up' as Theeagle would tell you.  You CAN do this --  All the best.

i would only use the methadone for a 1 week taper or the suboxone for a 2 week taper, and then hopefully be done with it,no i'm not snorting them or chewing them. guess i'm just looking for the easiest way out.i will continue trying to taper.thanks for your info

i dont think methadone is the way to go at all inless you were planning to be on it for a short period of time and lower your dose to 30mg then switch to suboxone. But suboxone does the job i am now on 2mg a day and i buy more if need it because i dont think im doctor gave me enough but whatever...suboxone is a way safer drug withdrawls are not as bad i heard methadone w/d can be more nasty then heroin and it takes the cravings away for sure. Methadone clinics are like traps once they get you hooked they keep on raising the doses and you could be stuck there for years!

with the opioid you are addicted and the dose your at methadone is way to far excessive and overkill, even suboxone is a little much for where you are not..im not saying your addiction and withdrawals arent bad...but try giving your DOC to someone you full trust like a family member, significant other, or close friend, but no one that uses, used to use, or any at any time and have them help you with the taper..then once you are down to 1-2 pills a day, do a at home detox or a short detox at a clinic or hosptial, but you are not a very high dose or super potent opioid, so it really isnt going to be that bad at all...you would have wd's for 5-6 days and then your done and you really need to ahve motivation and some willpower to want to stay clean and fully recover...each time you go back to using it keeps getting worse and it will eventually destroy everything and everyone in your life till your in prison or dead....no one is stronger than the drugs, no matter what...like i said your not on a very high dose so its def. doable..having your family or close friend hold on to your meds will force you to stick to a taper schedule and the support from them is very helpful as well...if you successfully taper down to 1-2 pils you really shoudlnt have any wd's maybe at most minor discomfort for a few days, something vwery very manageable, most wd is a mental aspect your brain and body make into something way exaggerated and created making it seem soooo much worse than what in reality it really is. so at most you will need some nyquil to sleep for like 3 days and some tylenol during the day...if it is too much have a weeks worth of a long acting benzo like valium or klonopin but dont takes that for longer than necessary..you said you have polydrugh abuse and take xanax those withdrawals are by far worse and can actually belethal your also not on a too high dose of that and it really dpeends on the length of time youve been on it, most likely you wont have any problems or wd's with the xanax, maybe minor discomfort...realistically for you i would recommend getting off all substances, you have an addictive personality(same as me) and all drugs are going to addictive and cause problems for you, go to NA meetings, get therapy with someone experienced in substance abuse field and you will be fine..its all mental with where your at...tapering yourself will not work, it will never work...you could possibly try switching to tramado, or codeine for a couple of weeks there a little lower potency can be addictive so the shoerter time period on them the better  but switch to them and get off those and your done with it all...you def. can do this everything you are addicted to is manageable and does not need methadone, suboxone, or anything like that you need support this forum has that but you need meetings and therapy..-christos

if i honestly asked myself "can i use metadone or sub. for one week, just to detox"
my answer would be no
its a great concept, just impossible for this addict

just know tapering is not an addict's specialty...at all./.some can...most have a spouse who hands them pills daily...i was a taper disaster....made me feel like a loser....when u have hi the point where u can not control ur taper...then there is just no other alternative but ct...i am not one to drag things out either..but i am not u and u r not me...and u do what u need to do..and get there with whatever plan u make or have made....throwing luck ur way (:

i think i will try the taper method then.so you dont think it would be a good idea.it would only be a 7 day taper with the methadone and then hopefully be done with it.HOPEFULLY
