suboxone/methadone

I've been prescribed 120 30mg roxicet for the past 9 years do to a bad knee from an accident, I want to stop but my Dr. just wants to keep giving me more meds...When I told him I wanted to stop he tried giving me xanax sticks...I have kids and need to stop because my tolerance is starting to exceed more the 120 a month. I took my last pill yesterday at 6pm and by 4pm today I was a mess. Runny nose, sweats, leg cramps, going to the bathroom every hr., and my skin was all goose....My question is a buddy got me 3 Suboxone 8mg/2mg and 2 10mg methadone pills. I took the suboxone at 4pm now when and what should I take next ? this is all I got and I'm naive about all this.

Well it's day 6 now and I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...I would to thank you guys for the advise and support....I just wanted you to know that I was not some drug addict like I see in these video's on addiction. I never snorted or smoked them. I'm a white collar guy with a nice home and 4 of the most beautiful kids. In 2004 I was in an awful accident and the ER gave me 15 morphine pills and 30 5mg percocet  and sent me to a pain management Dr, who told me the percocet was not good for my stomach and prescribed me 30 roxicet 30 mg. I used to break it in half and take a half 2x a day. Soon it was 60 a month then 90 a month then 120 a month....I never ever would sit around stoned it just helped me with my leg and I felt good....Then I saw the Documentary called the Oxycontin Express which opened my eyes to what I was really taking. I just never though a Dr. would give anyone something so addictive and never warn me. It was just here you go see you in 4 weeks. The side of the pill bottle should say Warning this will ruin your life....Again thanks to everyone I'm going to change Dr to one who will help me without the use of narcotics......

Yes, I believe you will feel better by day 7 physically, but mentally maybe not as good, but as each day goes by, you will feel better and better.
I'm so happy you ditched the subs.  Day 3 is hard, if you can get to day 4 or 5, that's usually when the things start to change for the better.  Hang in there and god bless you for taking care if your son full time and your sisters.

Yeah sorry I didn't get back sooner but I just didn't have it in me. I took suboxone after 22 hours of trying to be clean, I never withdrew before because I always had my pills. At the time of the suboxone I didn't know what or it even was but I was so sick I didn't care. I felt like I was going to die. The suboxone made me feel better (not ok) just able to get through the day....Then I read some post on the dangers of that so I've been cold turkey ever since....I'm nearing the end of day 3 of this battle that I must win...I just wish 9 years ago I would have some sort of clue from my Dr. what the hell they were doing to me. All I knew is that the medicine (if you can call it that) made me feel better..I never drank, smoked or did any drugs my entire life. I am a single father of 4 I have my own son ,full custody, and my sisters 3 kids which I adopted. I never thought of quitting until I learned about 2 years ago of the danger and epidemic of this drug. I'd rather deal with the pain of my leg then pretty much me addicted to, lets face it, heroin the rest of my life...I have to go bact to work in 4 days which will be 7 days clean do you think I will be any better by then ?

How are you doing now?  Did I read your post correctly?  Were you taking 30 mg Roxicets every day for 9 years?

Wait 36 hours between doses. Medical supervision is recommended. Get to your doctor and be honest with him so you can get the help you need.

Whoa there partner, you have been on 30mg Roxicets (I assume they are 30mg Oxycodones) for NINE years now??
If this is the case, I believe that you definitely need the assistance of a Doctor to detox and get off the pills. Quitting opiods/opiates cold turkey is rough enough  after 6 months on only 4-6 10mg Hydrocodones a day- so cold turkeying off of 120mg Oxycodone a day for NINE years will be brutal. Quick question, have you ever went through withdrawals before?
I know personally, I just cold turkeyed after another 1 1/2 years on about 150-200mg of Oxy/Hydro/whatever I could get my hands on. This was after being clean for 4 months after being on about 120-150mg Oxy/Hydro a day for also about a year an a half.
This time, I detoxed with the help of a Doctor. He gave me Clonidine to take 4 times a day. Clonidine is a blood pressure med that is also used in opiate detox, as it mostly eliminates the hot/cold flashes and the daytime sweating. It also keeps the blood pressure in check, and allows you to at least sleep a couple of hours a night. I still felt absolutely HORRIBLE- but it would have been much worse without the Clonidine.
I made it clean for 16 days- but I was still without ANY energy (every step made me feel like I was walking with 100 pound weights on my legs) and had no desire to do ANYTHING, along with major-league depression. This depression was unlike anything I had ever felt before during any detox- it literally had me contemplating suicide. So, I relapsed on day 16- figured it was better to relapse than to blow the back of my head off. 3 Days after relapsing I finally got to see my Doctor, and told him what had happened. He told me that with my extended opiate using history, that my brain was likely suffering a bit of damage that would take quite a while to heal (6 to 12 months), but it was normal and that I was experiencing P.A.W.S. (post acute withdrawal syndrome). I told him there was no way I could handle feeling like I did for 6-12 months, and asked to be put on Suboxone. Still an Opiod, I know, but better than full-time using and chasing and obsessing, or blowing the back of my head off. The Suboxone has helped- completely eliminated all withdrawal symptoms, eliminates all cravings, and does NOT get me high- just makes me feel normal. I feel as if the Suboxone will give me the time to get things in order and let my brain slowly heal, and then I can begin a slow taper and be off in 6 months to a year.
In YOUR case- man, NINE years is a LONG time. I seriously recommend you go to a Doctor and get help to avoid any complications from withdrawals, whether you decide on Clonidine detox or Suboxone Detox/Maintanence like I ended up doing. But again-nine years is a long, long time for your body to be used to opiates.
Another caveat is that you have a real legitimate reason to be on the meds if your knee is as jacked up as you say it is. Have you considered that you actually may NEED to be on some sort of Pain med the rest of your life? Just asking. If clear-headedness from the Pills is what you seek but still need pain relief, Suboxone may be right for you in that regard as well. Like I said, I don't get any high from it, but I feel 'normal' , and have noticed the pains in my body are gone.
Either way, I wish you good luck- and again urge you to get help from a Doctor. Seriously- Nine years at a high dose like you're on can be dangerous to cold turkey from. Seek help.

The insomnia can be one of the worst parts of wds. Melatonin, valerian root, or passionflower extract can help some, but usually you just have to ride it out. As far as the leg cramping, staying super hydrated, and increasing your potassium intake can help. Hot baths with epsom salts as often as needed also help. Putting either Icy Hot, or Vick's Vaporub (the menthol in them helps) on your legs and then wrapping them in ace bandages can really help too. Just don;t wrap them too tight! I hope that some of this helps you and you can get a little relief. Try to stay away from the subs and methadone and just bite the bullet. Remember this is temporary and the quicker you stop taking all opiates, the quicker you will feel better.

Please be careful with the methadone and the subs. They are both very strong opiates that should only be used under the supervision of a doctor. The withdrawls from both are very rough and drawn out. Much worse than shorter acting opiates such as Vicodin,Percocets, Roxys, etc. Is there any way that a trusted person could hold your meds and dole them out at the scheduled times? This might make it possible to do a taper. If you feel that a taper absolutely won't work then it will just have be cold turkey. The withdrawl symptoms will be more intense, but will be over soon enough. Try to stay away from Xanax and other possibly addictive meds. Honestly, the more natural you do this, the quicker you will feel better. Our bodies can't get rid of the toxins and heal if we keep putting more toxins in. Try to reiterate to your doctor that you are addicted and you want to stop. If he/she continues to push addictive meds on you, you may need to find a new, more supportive doctor. Let us know what symptoms you are having and we can recommend different things that helped us a long. Please stick around and keep posting. We are here for you. I wish you nothing but the best of luck. Take care.

I'm not an expert, but I've learned that subs should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor.  Plus, you start taking them and you will have to eventually stop taking them.  And I really don't think you should take subs with methadone.
What about a slow and steady taper off the percocets, with your doctors help?
You never mentioned how the pain in your knee is after not taking any percs.
Others who are more experienced will chime in to help.
