suboxone

ive been taking suboxone for a little over 2 months now and it has been helping me so much.  my dr suggested staying on it for a year.  i know alot of people disagree with drug replacement therapy and sometimes i feel bad that i am taking the suboxone.  i feel like im not really clean or like im cheating.  ive heard of alot of people who went right back to using after they stopped taking it but i want to know if there is anyone out there who has has success with staying clean after coming off it.

Hi, yeah I was on the suboxone for an estimate 2 years. And it did help. I wouldnt really call it cheating it is replacing the worst with not a worse. It is suppose to help you get away from all the things that pills and heroine come with it like people places things. Suboxone in my opinion gives you time to get your priorities in order. I admit it is not the miracle drug, but can be helpful. If you just keep relapsing. Dont get me wrong I relapsed on pills while doing the subs many times. I was down to less than 2mg a day and the last week alittle less. Once I got through the 7 to 10 days of withdrawal from the subs. It was like I was giving the subs more credit than they were doing for me. Alot of it was in my head that I needed subs to stay away from pills or I wouldnt feel normal, but now the new normal is so much better than relying on the subs or pain pills. The thing that is really helping me stay clean now is changing people, places, things, and a good therapist. Keep up the good work and remember you dont have to be on subs forever.

The other ingredient in the suboxone is neither naltrexone nor narcan. It is called naloxone. It rhymes with suboxone.

Well thank you for clearing that up, I REALLY do appreciate that ! But, my detox doctor has described things a bit differently to me, and I at this point just want OFF everything ! After gearing up for the surgery after 7 plus years clean, and following all of the doctor's directions I still managed to have close to 3 weeks of shear AGONY ! And I truly feel that at this point in my life I am ready to stand on my own without the Suboxone. I plan to continue all of my counseling and psych. appts. and reaching out for help to good people suck as you guys here ! Thanks Again !
Be Well !

I didnt in any way say you abused i was just saying in general so dont take that wrong but i would like to correct your post a little and please dont take the wrong either but the opiate bupe in the suboxone is what actually does everything the narcan only does anything if shot up and suboxone will not make you sick if you use while taking it actually the way it works is that the bupe is so strong and attatches to receptors so tight that other meds cannot get thru it and get on the receptors to make you high the narcan has nothing to do with the blocking effect of suboxone and the was suboxone makes you sick is if you are taking pain pills and take suboxone to soon after you have taken the pain pills so if you dont wait until you are in withdrawal from pain pills before taking suboxone it will throw you into precipitated withdrawal and the reason it does that is once again not the narcan it is the bupe kicking the other opiates off of the receptors because it is stronger than pretty much all the opiates in pain meds out there well sorry you took my other post the wrong way i was in no way saying you are or were abusing ur subs and didnt mean for you to take it that way

Good Luck and Godspeed

I didn't see where someone said 'you' abused the sub. I just saw a comment that said it has been abused.

Oh and by the way, not that I am proud of it, but I used for 25 plus years, closer to 30 now, so this isn't my first dance. If I can EVER be of help, let me know ! Take Care !

Hey there,
First of all let me say I DID NOT abuse my Suboxone, and I am a bit pissed off that people automatically take that position. Anyways, there are 2 active ingredients in Suboxone, first is Buprenorphine, which is technically and OPIOT, secondly there is Naltrexone, this is the part that will make you sick if you use, and or block slip effects. The pellet, is JUST Naltrexone and thusly get's you off of the Opiods. Seeing as how, I have used it with success in the past and RIGHT NOW, I know this to be the truth. However, I do agree with the statement that everybody is different and you have to stay true to yourself and do what is best for YOU ! People should get ALL of the facts, BEFORE saying things...it looks less ignorant ! Be Well !

Very good statement abritt121222....I shared a similar experience. Suboxone most definitely has it's place in the "addiction"  world...

Though in saying that...everyone's experience to each drug treatment is different.

Im here another one that suboxone worked for and like they say you have just got to do it the right way and just like any other drug you cant lean on the subs and you still have to want to be clean and follow a good program with aftercare and you will make it and it wont be to bad at all so dont feel like you are doing anything wrong just because you read some horror stories about suboxone because someone else has abused it and didnt do it right because suboxone is not the devil it in my opinion is a very very very great med and has helped me and many others do what we maybe never could have done without it but like i said it has to be taken right or it is just another med that is abused

Good Luck and Godspeed

I am really not saying it's bad and TRUST me I have been VERY active with my program. I just feel like the very thing I am trying to escape is got me enslaved. It's a big ugly catch 22. I have been clean from dope for 7 years now. Coke well, that was another batter, you see my drug of choice is speedballs. But, the fact that I can honestly say that I truly want better, is the biggest hurdle concurred. Thank You for answering.

Hi,
I wouldn't say that being on Suboxone is cheating IF you are working a recovery program along with it.  Just the Sub alone will not keep you clean no matter how long one has been on it, believe you me.  This is my third time on sub, but only the first I've worked a program with it.  I'm coming up on a year of being on sub and really wish I wouldn't have gone that route, but right now I can say that it is working for me and I'm working it.  Good luck to you :)

Hey,
I have been taking Suxboxone for over 7 years now, and tried to ween down a week and a half ago because I had to have Vocal chord surgery this past Tuesday. Do youself a favour, GET OFF OF IT ! When you are STABLE and strong discuss the pellet or something similar with your doctor. I do feel that Suboxone was helpful, it got me off the dope/coke mainers, but it also keeps you a prisoner to the opiates. I have used for over 30 years, so this isn't my first dance with this crap. Be true to YOURSELF and don't let others dictate to you what is to be YOUR future ! I will give you my opinion, but what may work for some, will not for others. Only YOU can figure out your next step, and YOU CAN DO IT ! Just don't give up, make a plan and stick to it. Good Luck and Be Well !

thanks i will check that out.  i too have decided that i would like to help people and i am trying to get back into college to get a degree to become an addiction counselor.  i had to leave my old kind of work that i was soooooo passionate about because it was not an environment that i could stay clean in and i believe the only way i will be able to stay clean is if i find something to do that i really believe in and enjoy doing.  i have started making beaded jewelry and have actually been selling some of it but that is a hobby at this point, not a career and i definitely cannot go back to my old career.

Hey jojo :) I was on Suboxone for over a year (for a 2 year painkiller addiction)...don't in any way feel like you're cheating at all! It is simply facilitating you get clean...or simply  a way in minimisng the harms to yourself. I have been off suboxone for 135 days now...i honestly believe think that if it wasn't for suboxone (and the support from everyone on here!) i wouldn't be where i'm at today. Though i do understand everyone is different and it may not be for everyone. But in my case....it played a major part in not only getting clean, but changing my entire outlook on life...for the better! Through my experience i decided i wanted to help other people...so I'm now studying to become an drug and alcohol worker :) i believe we learn something through all experiences in life...the good...the great...the bad...and the realllyyy really horrid! and what we choose to take from these experiences can make us stronger.

Suboxone, Subutex or Methadone and all be used as a short term detox treatment...a long term maintenance treatment or for a period of time where you get to a stable point and slowly decrease your dosage(this is what i did). If you want any more information feel free to message me :)

Get onto google and look up "harm minimisation"... It's a concept that was developed as a way of reducing the harms caused by alcohol and/ drugs without nessisarily stopping the drug use (legal and illegal drugs). I know it can be a very controversial subject in many countries but here in Australia it is now being used as the main approach to drug use (this can include suboxone too!) it's a real eye opener. I never knew something like this existed...I have only found out about this approach to drug use through the course i am doing . I'm not in any way trying to condone drug use or suggesting that this is what you should do...but it's very interesting.
