I am certainly no expert but I'm gonna give you my two cents anyway. My sister was an addict for years. She would do anything put in front of her. A couple years ago she got on suboxone and now she is addicted to it. She says the wd is the worst hell ever, more than anything else she ever did. So IMO a small dose tapered by a doctor would probably be ok but I think it's not a good thing for long term. Again, I'm no expert just my two cents. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will come along with some better advice. Good luck.

Well hello there!

If you've been off Methadone that long already (congrats on that btw!), what are you doing for pain control now?  What was your drug of choice before the Methadone?

So, your wife has chronic pain issues and she also has a history of addiction?  I'm assuming her addiction centered around pain pills?  Was the Methadone for the addiction or for pain or both?

Can you share a little about her addiction history, what her drug of choice was and how much she used and for how long?  How long has she been off the Methadone now?  What is she doing for her pain now?  Is she taking anything?  Has she started sub?  If so, what's her dose?

Suboxone CAN be very effective for longer term pain control.  Of course, it doesn't come without risks and issues.  It's similar to Methadone in how it fills the opiate receptors, its long half life and how it's stored in the body, it's just not quite as powerful (not too far behind though).

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but hopefully with some more info, we can better advise you.  Would it be possible for your wife to post?  It's much better to have the person post for themselves for many reasons.
