Methadone is very hard withdrawal! Took me 5 months to fully feel normal. I am also now on Suboxone. It makes me feel normal. Anyone going through methadone withdrawal, I feel for you. It's a long process that is horrible. It does get better. Hang in there.

tony is was thinking 16mgs was way too high for 50mgs also.
16mgs is a high dose by any standard.
the rough conversion is 2mgs subs for 50mgs methadone.

What symptoms are you having. Subs can make you sick at too high a dose. I used 8 mgs sub a day and my last methadone dose was 160mgs. Every body is different, but subs are strong and accumulate in your system. 16mgs seems high for 50mgs of methadone, you may want to talk to you doctor about that. With sub, less is more. If you take more than enough to feel okay, then it doesn't work as well. My opinion, give the subs a chance, but adjust it to be comfortable. My thinking was more clear on subs than methadone. For me, I should have stayed on it longer to let the methadone detox, but totally opiate free has worked out best.

Is the sub for pain, detox, why did you change meds?
Are you trying to get off all opiates, I guess I am wondering what your plan is.
With more info of your goals and situation we can help more. Hang in there, we can work this out.

I too was a 20 year methadone patient.  I have tried numerous times to switch to suboxone.  On suboxone I cannot sleep, I have extremem anxiety, and I have no energy.  I am not sick but I do not feel normal.  I have been told by the manufacturer that this is a common complaint from long term methadone maintenance patients.  I suggest you return to methadone.  Follow your own bodies advice and ignore the rest.  Only you know how your body functions and reacts to medication.  Just because this works for many doesnt mean it works for everyone.
Oh heck....I have taken methadone for 30 years..maybe longer, and want to transfer to buprenorphine- simply as methadone is not lasting 24hrs before [mild but annoying] withdrawal feelings begin ..cut down now to just 30mgs- they say 25mgs is best to do the transfer..
Here, buprenorphine is used much more often than suboxone. Wish I'd quit years ago.
I think it gets harder the older you are?...twitchy muscles and that exhausted feeling. ugh.
I do know someone who switched to buprenorphine after same time frame, and he seems much more energetic.

did you switch from methadone at 50mgs to 16 mgs of suboxone?
or did you taper down on your methadone?
