suboxone

someone that is knowlegable??
Please you seem very knowledgable, I have one quick question. I have been taking 1/8 of an 8mg tablet of suboxone for about one year. I have dental surgery coming up and was told by the DR I would be on percocet after the fact. I do not see a DR for the suboxone, lets just say I regulated myself on the dose. I have researched every where and cannot find a clear cut answer as to how long it will take to feel the effects of the percocet.... I just do not want to be in pain. Some people (Rph) have said that its up to 17days?? and others i have read say 36-48hrs. Please help? I would like to know so I can stop the suboxone when/if necessary.

Ummmmm it had to b in your mind. I was in a severe carwreck after getting my first prescription i was n detox so my body was used to it already anyways after i told them i was ob it they still gave me morphine. Pointless, i wanted to feel it so bad but never did.But if it was long enough after you still feel a little suboxone but after the naloxobe wears off u will feel it

Im new here but been on suboxone maintenance for about six to seven months. I came off a seven year methadone addiction. Anyways if you are taking just 1mg a day you got this in the bag, don't take percocet its not worth it. You may not get sick but it will be blocked because of the opiate. If i were you and taking that little bit i would quit completely. I take two 8/2 mg a day. I would love to be where u are. Anyways the suboxone will help pain, i have two types of scoliosis. Yes i do take alot but tooth pain is nowhere near this pain and suboxone helps. Ill take ibuprofen if it bothers me more. I also had three teeth cut out, broke my foot and got a really bad abscess on my face, suboxone helps it all. You will do great

But it doesnt take long to be on percocet to have withdrawals from it. My sister had dental surgery and was only on it for a few days and started having withdrawals from it!

When I would take suboxone, even though it had a blocker in it, I still felt the effects of the Norco or oxy i was taking. I thought they went great together, I dunno..I havent had suboxone in 3 years

I think that you are taking a low enough amount of suboxone that you should be fine taking percs.  But if I were you I would try the Advil or non narcotic meds first.  It can't hurt and believe me, going into immediate withdraws is the worst thing ever.  I'd rather die.  So be careful.

I wish I would remember everything in one post (LOL) sorry everyone. The one thing I DO NOT recommend is ultram with suboxone, it is TERRIBLE! I'll leave it at that. It does not do a thing and makes you feel like ****, not sick, just like ****, very hard to explain, but as I said, seriously try aspirin first, I don't recommend using the percocet since you are an addict, unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!! If you just want to take it because they are giving it to you, you better check yourself, because that will take you right back out there, k.... Not saying this is the case, but I just wanted to cover that, because it has happend to me, and I do not wish that on anyone.

Now I did forget to mention, if you take a percocet, and then take a suboxone to soon after, you will go into immediate w/d's, because the suboxone actually fights the other opiate in your system, and knocks it off of your receptors, but then the subxone does not attatch itself to the receptors either, and it is what they call precipiated withdrawl's. You can read about that on suboxone's site www.suboxone.com if you do take a percocet for your dental pain, make sure you don't do another sobo for at least 12 hours, maybe 18 hours, 12 hours worked fine for me though. I just had 14 teeth pulled, all my upper ones, and 2 lower ones, in the last 3 weeks, so I know how crappy the pain is, but all I am using is my suboxone and aspirin, for some reason aspirin works much better for tooth, and gum pain then anything else out there, which is very hard to believe but true. Let me know how you make out--- the best of luck to you, and God Bless.

Yes, you can take a percocet about 8-10 hours after taking suboxone, I have done it and it works fine, other people say you will get sick as a dog, but that is not true, because they have never tried it, that is just what the doctors tell you because they don't want you to know you can do this. I am currently on suboxone maintaince, and don't do percs anymore, but I used to get sobo's on the street and take opiates later in the day and they worked. The naloxone in the suboxone is what makes other opiates not work for the 8-10 hour time (I say 8-10 depending on your metabolism, etc. I personally have done it in 6 hours). The naloxone only is active for 6-8 hours after taking your suboxone, and once the naloxone is out of the picture, you can take whatever you want. At least this is how it is for me, so do it at your own risk, because everybody is different. The reason opiates work better after suboxone is because the suboxone basically brings you up to baseline, you are not in withdrawl, and therefor you can use them for pain, but it is very hard to get high off of them, the thing is that you have to take twice as much of the perc that you normally do, because the suboxone is attatched to the receptors in your brain, but not all of the receptors, so the other opiate will find the free, or open receptors, and attatch to them, that is why you need a double dose. Risky, yes, but it can be done. As I said, do it at your own risk, but I just wanted to clear up some other people's beliefs.

I just had surgery and since they couldn't give me any kind of opiate, as the injection into my bloodstream would have sent me straight into withdrawal, I was given Toradol.  It worked for me.  I know there are a lot of non-narcotic pain meds out there, just ask for one.  It's too complicated to figure out how long you have to be off the Sub to feel the effects of an opiate, when you will probably have to go into withdrawal to do it.  The part about Sub being used for pain is also true.  I have heard it is prescribed to people just for pain.  A third point is that I have never had any kind of dental surgery that needed Percoset.  Motrin 800s work just fine, and the dentists who give Vicodin and Percoset for dental surgery are the docs who get us into these messes to begin with.  I would say stay on the Sub, and ask for as strong of a non-narcotic med as possible.  You will be just fine.  If the pain is too much to handle, you can always stop the Sub and go on the Percoset then.

I had to have dental work done while on subs (wisdom teeth extractions - 2 of them with stitches!) I could not take anything for the pain - other than the sub, obviously.  My sub doctor said that it would have no effect.  I also called the suboxone hotline and was told the same thing.  Advil helped.  I got through it though.  good luck to you!

i don't know what kind of a procedure your having.maybe just stick with a non narcotic pain med for a while.i've had major work done on my teeth snd was never given a script of lortab.as far as i know ,you have to be in mild to moderate withdrawal before you should take suboxone.

Hi,
I will be in your shoes (almost) in January. But I take sub from a dr. I take 16mg a day.
When I found out I needed 6 teeth pulled for dentures, UGH! I freaked.  I hate dentists & dental pain. I spoke to both sub dr & dentist who agree as I do that the sub will block the pain  b/c it has helped with my back pain since I started it. lower back pain.
I don't know if the small amnt you take will help with pain. But I personally wouldn't risk taking a opiate with sub in your system.
And without having a sub doctor and you tell the dentist he probably won't see you knowing you are taking a presp drug without a drs supervison b/c of legal issues. I want to have gas when they pull my teeth but they said no, not while on the sub.
Hope your dentist visit isn't as unpleasant as mine is going to be. I keep having nitemares that I am at work and I smile but I have 2 teeth in 2 different places in my mouth b/c I freaked getting them pulled and made the dentist stop.! I have already put it off this year, can't any more.
good luck to you
