sudden fentanyl withdrawal

somebody please advise me! i've hit a brick wall and am desperate.  the clinic i go to says i got my prescription on the 8th for duragesic and will not refill it til then even though my pharmacist told them it was on the 30th, 9 days difference, so now i am going to be in sudden withdrawal and i don't know what to do at all, my dose is 25mcg/hr and i've been on it for 3 months now.  please advise, and howcome they won't believe the pharmacist?  i know i'm just a lowly charity patient, but they shouldn't put me on something like this (by the way, paid for by the company's charity plan $259 a month) and then, make me go through 9 days of withdrawals as sick as i am to start with, the director of the clinic even told me that the emergency room will not help me, so please, what are home remedies, anyway of just sleeping through these next few days?

I am sorry you are going through all of this. If you haven't yet, I suggest you post in the pain mngt forum here at MH. The members there are most helpful and can perhaps guide you better. I provided the link for you, please ask for help.

Whoever told you the ER wouldn't help you? Not true, because most ER's are very familiar with this problem. I know I was there just last weekend.  They also will put a patch on you there. It may be an uncomfortable wait, but they will help you. That person at your clinic is lying to you, and I'm shocked that they would risk your life like this. Maybe an Attorney would be a good first step in their negligent behavior? I wish you Peace, and hope you get some relief. Sincerely, Franny BTW I just detoxed off of the patches after 4 years on them, and can tell you life is getting better everyday. Some folks don't realize that Fentynal is 100 times stronger than Morphine, and one of the most difficult drugs to detox from.

Hey~   How are you doing?    If you're feeling poorly, you have every reason to go to the ER. They will help you.  This is pretty bad,in my opinion.

You have the papers. I'd get them over to an attorney and file malpractice by the physician putting you into detox for no reason.  Id be mad mad mad and someone would pat for it.  Especially that you were not abusing them.  I fire him and sue the practice.  I feel for ya..

Hi...Okay.  Get some Hyland's Restful Legs at Walgreens. Push fluids: apple/orange juice and water. You need potassium. Take a good multi vitamin with minerals.

Immodium will help even if you don't have diarrhea yet. It contains an opiate and although it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier,it will help you.

Be sure to get some food in,especially protein. All of this will help your nervous system.
Take Nyquil as directed for restlessness. You can take these things together.

This is a tough situation. It sounds like a bunch of bureacratic BS !!

Keep in touch with any other questions~~

the problem is coming from this new doctor who resents that the pain clinic part has been consolidated down to his level where he is in charge, i guess he's scared of liability.  i do have the prescription bottles with the dates on them, i did speak to the manager of the clinic and she was too busy protecting what the doctor had said about me getting rx's on the 8 before which i did, but it was respiratory meds nothing to do with pain meds. i did call my pharmacist, and my pharmacist spoke directly to the supervisor of the clinic who by the way has no medical knowledge just administrative.  i am having leg tremors and kicks so bad i can't sleep, panicky, and clumsy, dropping everything out of my hands and running into walls when i try to walk, please god tell me this will be over soon.  i did what i was supposed to do.  the only thing i know to do now is to call pricara the company that makes the pain patches and tell them what thhis new resident doctor has done to me, let them know they lose money this way, and maybe some justice will be done, course that won't help me much.  already my hands hurt too bad to keep typing.  thank you all for your responses.  jsut tell me how to make this better if you can?

I had something like that happen one time.  The pharmacy said I didn't have any refills. So I called my dr for a refill and they would not fill it because they said I had a refill.  I had kept the last 2 bottles that had the refills on the label.  I took them to the pharmacy and told them to pull the original prescription.  They did and realized they made a mistake.  I also took the bottles with me the next time I went to the dr and showed him it was not me but the pharmacy.

You have to cover your butt because some times they will rip you off at the pharmacy.  If they think you won't catch it. If the pharmacy is on your side I would have them call the clinic.  When your in pain and you take this stuff because your in pain they should not treat you like that.

I had a dang pharmacy tech kid tell me one time that he has to deal with drug addicts all the time.  I told him, be careful what your saying.  There are people like me that have had cancer and chemo that has messed up their bodies and we're in pain.  Sure we become addicted to this stuff and I know most of us don't like having to take it but you do what you have to do to get through life.

You have documents that you can get.  The pharm has them, you have them stuck to the box of the patches.  It shouldnt be an argument.  Stand up for your self!  If ya filled and ran out early thats your bad.  Suck it up. We've all done it.

I wouldn't give up-you need to keep on them. Have the pharmacy call the clinic, you call the clinic until someone really listens to you...do you have the script with the date of the 30th on it? If you do, march on over there and show them. Don't let them walk all over you. I wish you luck and I'm sorry you are going through this.

Hi~  This isn't right. Something's missing.  Is the pharmacist at the clinic? Is this an insurance issue?   Who at the clinic said no to you?  Go back to your pharmacist and explain and ask him for help. I go nuts when I hear of people being treated like this!
Also, get in touch with your doctor.

Post back~

Is there a supervisor at the clinic you can speak with? I can't believe they won't even take the pharmacists word for it. I hope you can get this resolved and maybe if you do explain this to staff at the er and they confirm your story with the pharmacy then they might help you. Sorry your going through this. If all else fails check out the Thomas recipe posted here in the health pages and when this is resolved I'd personally find a new clinic.
