Welcome to the forum. There are many here that have kicked oxy`s and this is a great place for support. Have you ever tried to quit in the past. How much are you taking each day. Someone that knows more about oxy`s than me will come along soon, but some info will help them. Are you planning on tapering or ct. Just wanted to wish you luck.

Hi, I'm the one totallost was referring too.  Yes, it's true, I've mastered it...I can't possibly relapse.  I'm kidding of course.  I've only been off of them for almost 7 weeks.  I was taking them all day everyday.

Some people have a easier time getting over them than others and also everytime you stop, it's also different.  I've tried to stop 4 times now and this is the ONE this time because I made great pains from starting again by burning my bridges.

If your serious about quitting, then you need to do this too.  When you do this, it has a sense of finally to it and it makes you stronger in the longrun.  You also need to hang out with different people.  You can't ever let your guard down either, because that's exactly when the addiction claws it's way back.

The last time I really tried to quit, I stopped for 6 weeks and I thought I was doing a really good job, so I thought I'd reward myself with taking a few Vics....BAD IDEA!  Believe it or not there will days that it won't be the center of attention for you and eventually you won't think of it at all.

For me, it took about 2 weeks for me to start feeling better again, but the first week to get through w/d's.  The fear of withdrawals are worse than the actual w/d's.  The most important thing though is that you want to quit.  If you don't really want to, then you won't.  Something else that will help is to list the pros and the cons of the Oxy's.  You might not want to do that right now since you can't see the forest for the trees.

I know you feel like **** right now, but it will get better..much MUCH better.  Also, you need to distract yourself.  It won't be easy at first but it will and you'll be able to do it with ease over time.  I've had a few nasty w/d's this week but I don't want to screw up again by taking just one.

One last thing to remember.....if you were to start again (even after waiting years) it would only take a few days for your body to build up it's tolerance again.  You'll never be able to go back again the way it was.  For you to be able to feel again like you did when you first started the Oxy's, you'll have to take more and more.

Well, that's all I can think of right now and I still have a long way to go, but it's getting easier and it will for you too!

hi..thanks for writing...were you taking oxy's and if you were ..how many a day were you up to..[how many mgs]....also..you say  that you popped a few vics...were you mixing opiods or were you constsntly on the same thing...how long was it before you were able to sleep [did you have kids in the house]...i think the not sleeping is my biggist obstacle as i need to sleep somewhat due to work..thanks again for writing..i think i speak for many when i say its nice to know that we are not alone...posteman...

not sleeping seems to be one of the worst w/d symptons and there are many things you can do for that you just have to find the one that is right for you,I took an otc called ALteril you can get at CVS or wAL-Mart,no nasty morning hangover effects with it ,you could also try melatonin,or some form of p.m med (Tylenol P.M.,Advil P.M.,etc) hot baths also work well l-theanine or valerian are also some thing you may want to try again they are all otc so no chance of addiction hope this helps you and good luck you can do this !

No, I haven't taken any Oxy's before.....good thing too because I know I would have liked them!  From what I've heard Vicodin is one of the or maybe the most abused med because their so easy to get a prescription for.  I know Oxy's are better for your liver, but still....they're bad and like I said....you'll have to take more to get that feeling or even just to feel normal.

The sleep question is a little difficult for me because I went manic about two weeks after I was off the Vics, which means I got even less sleep but I had waaay too much energy.  I'm not complaining but that's not quite normal either.  It's different for everyone but I think your sleep begins to normalize after around a couple weeks.

I have one child but I'm not working now, but since I'm off the Vics, I'm working on going back in a few months.  I have Bi-Polar Type 1 and Borderline Personality Disorder....a real nice mix.  The Vicodin seemed to help and perhaps it does in the short term, but in the longrun it made things worse.  It wasn't the source of my problems since I had it before I started taking the Vics....in fact that's why I started.  Anyway, it wasn't the source, but I can see that it kept fueling it.

Anyway, for me, everything took around two weeks before I started seeing the sun again ya know.  I was able to see glimpses of light and I could say...ya know....I think I might be OK.  After that it got better (and continues to) exponentially!

If you need to though, go to your doctor and get some (non-addictive) sleep aids.  I say non-addictive, but the truth is anything can become addictive depending how much you think you need something.  That said, I take Lunesta which isn't addictive and it helps but it doesn't bother me when I don't have any...no biggie.  I've started to sleep better the last week now that the mania is gone.

You just have to keep fighting it and I promise, it won't be as hard as it is now!  You just need to make it very hard for you to get more and then when you do have cravings, the time it takes for you to get some, you'll think twice about it.  Hopefully, you won't.  So far, so good for me....I've had some nasty cravings this week, like I said I believe, but I haven't caved to them.  I think it's a little easier for me because I was getting them through someone else and I know I could never get as many now as I did then.  So it helps to know that even if I did, it wouldn't be much and why even start if you're gonna run out in a few days to a week!  I'm not saying only use something like that to keep you from using, but use anything you can to help you.

I know that eventually, I'll stop thinking about the Vics altogether, save for it will hit me once in a while, but today I can say I'm good and while I still want them from time to time, I certainly don't want to go through the hell I went through every month!  Sorry for the run-on sentences...lol, but you get the point.  Be determined and you won't fail!

valerian root or melatonin both are otc in most walmarts here...there is an online website called Bulk Nutrition where u can get all the vitamins and aminos u need to quit plus sleep aids as well....u can ask ur doctor for sumpin safe for sleep as well..sleep is important to recovery and if u know it will be a problem then u should plan ahead for it..keep posting

oh..and i am a skimmer so someone may have mentioned tapering to u..may be the best way to go and ur doctor may help u with it..there is an article in the health pages on tapering...often it is best to have someone hold ur pills for u..getting on down to 80 mgs a day..then 40 mgs etc..u can go slowly or faster depending on what u can handle..dropping 10 mgs a week or 100 mgs every few days
many here used "legally"..doesnt really mean it is any easier to quit tho..some people have doctors who will prescribe 120 plus of oxy per day and others do not..some "had" doctors who prescribed 120 mgs plus and for some reason that ended..then it is not unusual for someone to delve into "illegal" use whether it be trading with friends or buying pills...as long as u have a supply coming in legally it is hard to know what may happen if u did not have the supply...one thing everyone here has in common..to some degree..is the fact that they feel the pills have control..and pills do not seem to care about the law..best of luck and however u decide to do stick to ur plan

The bad news is, I can't tell you when your sleeping pattern will return to normal but the good news is of course that it will.  I doubt it will be too much longer though.  Remember if your body gets tired enough, you'll sleep!  The only problem with that is, you probably feel like you need it yesterday.  I'm sure you do, but it will come.

You're probably already doing this but try to get into a normal sleeping pattern, and if you can't go to sleep or stay asleep..don't worry.  Just make sure that when you get up, stay up and that will speed up your normal sleep considerably!

Good morning posteman and welcome,

I am getting presciptions for oxycodone (120) and oxycontin (60) a month. Oxycontin is the time released form of oxycodone. I usually break them up with my teeth to get an immediate release of the drug. So I'm taking on average 50 to 60 mg's a day. I'm prescribed 40 mg's a day. So almost every month I would run out by about a week to 10 days. I normally have to scrounge for more meds to make it to my next scrip. I have been doing this for almost 2 years.
I'm now at...(let's see).. Hour 85 of cold turkeying it. I did a fast slow taper down to 30 mg's a day (about a week). Do to my work, I have several days off in a row. I picked a date and stuck with it. I just got to the point of needing to stop. I'm tired of not having control of my life.
When I would run out, I would take whatever I could get. I would mix both oxy's and vics. They effect the same receptors in our brain, so it doesn't matter. Your just not getting as strong a dose with vics.
Sleep is one of the toughest obstacles we have when were trying to quit. This is the first time I have really stuck to the Thomas Recipe. The last four nights I've sleep on average 5 to 6 hours. Honestly, I can't complain about that. Do what Thomas says and stick to the Amino Acid protocol and it will help ease the pain. You're still going to feel like **** for a few days, but you should be able to at least function a little.
Like I said, I'm at hour 85 and I think if I squint I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Good luck with everything. Write when you need help. This is an amazing site. Come to it as often as you can. It will help ease the pain mentally and physically.

By the way, If you have access to a GNC or any type of health store, they will have the ingredients you need for the recipe.

Take care,

UNG
