taper plan

taper plan

I can take a few days off when i need to, but in the mean time I'd like some help with a taper plan.  My husband has my pills, I have exactly 23 20 mg oxys left.  I have a script for 120 percocets on Monday but do not have to get them.  We have no idea how to do this.  He's beeen giving me 3 20 mg oxys a day, down from my usual 10 and I'm really hurting.  I'd rather not go c/t, have tried that before and I just can't do it.

fladdict is probably at work, but i will call her and ask her when she gets off to give you one..she is really good at that, and if you are going to taper , you should not be miserable, so she figures it out so that it is just enough to keep you from feeling w/d's

Sorry your post got buried here.

First off, going from 10 to 3 is not a taper..it is a leap!! I am sure your body is screaming at you.

The idea behind tapering is to get your body adjusted to the lower doses as you go down. I have found that the best way to do it is to start at your normal dose and take yourself down every 3 days. That gives your body time to adjust, as I said. No matter how slow you do it, your body (and mind) will feel it with each lowering point. It will not be as severe as c/t.

Just to remind you---tapering is very difficult. Most people cannot handle it (I included), because of the withdrawal symptoms. You are doing one of the hardest things and that is to have someone hold them for you and dose you. That is always advisable. If you decide to do it, let him know that under NO circumstances is he to give in..no matter what you say. Also, taking time from work is helpful. You may want to wait until you are down to a lower dose and feeling the effects before taking off time.

Arm yourself with all of the otc supplements you have read about here.

Please keep posting and asking questions. Take all the suggestions and advise you can.

Take care and hope to see you again.
