tapering

I know this is a stupid question, but EXACTY how do you taper off of Vicodin? Is there a formula? Over how many weeks? etc. Thanks.

avisg is one of the main taper ppl here. you can message her (has a purple flower by her name). she may also have something in her journals about tapering. you gotta be strong tho. welcome and good luck to you.

i tappered successsfully.

first i cut my doses down to only twice a day. drop a pill or how ever much you can stand. stay there for at least a week as your body adjusts. then drop some more and keep doing it until you are down to nothing.

you will feel withdrawl (withdrawal) while you are doing this, but it is not nearly as bad . to me this was the only way i could do it. it took a month. when i quit there was a couple of nites with no sleep but then it was all up hill.

best wishes to you!!
plan carefully for what you will be doing during that time and for the after if you experience pain.

If you have the pills to do the month taper, that works great. If you have a limited # of pills left, it needs to be a quicker taper.

I tapered as well and cutting your dose every 4 or 5 days is a good way to go. Once you get used to a certain dosage cut back again. Let your body tell you when to cut back. But like GoingToMakeIt said if you have to do a quick taper then of course that changes your approach. If you need help let em know.

Good luck

I tapered...very quickly tho...10 days til i had time off work...i was a horrible taperer!  I had to hand my pills over and admit defeat..seemed as tho i would take more knowing i was supposed to take less.  For me it prolonged the agony as i did not feel well and was probably due to tapering so fast but i was ready to be done and like gtm said...i had a limited number of pills and refused to get anymore...disciplined people are good at doing a long slow taper...many are not tho...I was afraid if i tapered too long i would lose my motivation to quit....but if someone is on a really high dose it can help to taper down some before quitting..good luck
