Hi,
I quit taking pain meds about a month ago, I am in the process of cutting down on my drinking...2-3 glasses of wine a night. I was wondering how long does it take to get it all out of the system. I would like to go have my blood checked and was hoping a vacation from everything make a difference. I drink regularly, at times in excess...once a week. Last year I was on Flagyl for a bacteria infection that I was hospitalized for. I didnt drink at all while on the medication and waited 2 weeks until I had my first glass of wine. That night I 3 glasses and I couldn't controll my legs, couldn't walk I was a total and utter mess for about 2 hours. It scared me so badly but...it didn't stop me. I have been super sensative ever since. I'm scared I did permanent damage.

I am so stupid, you are right they took blood in the hospital..I just never got the resultas. My eyes are normal, white clear. I dont have pain. I just cant understand the night when I fell in a drunken stooper after 3 glasses of wine. I was really paralized, I could see myself falling and hear the voices around but I couldnt controll myself. I was with my friend who is partially blind and I made his life total hell for 2 hours. I feel so bad and guilty.

You think you may have liver disease because you do not have the same tolerance to alcohol as you once did. This kind of reaction is not conclusive with liver disease. Are the whites of your eyes now yellow? Do you suffer pain in the abdomen? Don't you think that when you were in the Hospital that they would have advised you of any abnormalities in your liver enzymes? There is only one way to truly find out. Make an appointment with your PCP and have a complete work up full panel of the blood. If they should contact you and ask you to come in do not assume the worst it could be something minor, like elevated LDL or HDL cholesterol levels may be high. What ever it is I'm sure that it is minor. If you had liver disease this would cause the whites of your eyes to have a yellow hint to them. I am sure you are over reacting.-------------------------NOAH

I was taking 3 vicodine a day then switched to Novacitol which is 3 parts aspirine, tylonel and codine. I think there is a very small dosage of all three. I was on 2/ 3 a day for a month. When I quit I didn't really experience w/ds I'm thinking it was a combo of drinking and the meds.non? Or its the drinking. I have no symptoms of liver damage I'm just scared after that reactiion that one night. BUT I STILL DRINK

I am not doubting you, but why do you suspect liver damage? What pain meds were you taking and at what dosages? Honestly, if your pain medication was in a lowish dose, the drinking is doing as much harm to your liver as the meds.

Thank you for your response. If I caused damage to my liver how long does it take for that to heal?

If you're referring to the pain meds, then they are long gone. 3-5 days is the norm for most pain meds. By 2 weeks, you're clear.
