they finally got to me

Haven't posted in awhile, the panic attacks finally got to me and I started drinking again, now I'm trying to stop and getting the DTs,I have everything I need to stop,Benzos I mean, but the ativan Ive been taking and it's actually giving me a panic attack after it hits,I also have 10mg valium,I spoke to a nurse and she said I can take 5mgs every 2 hours as I feel my heart race and the shakes coming. That sounds like an awful lot a valium to be taking, can anyone here help with a regimine,I haven't eaten in a week and I'm pretty scared.I KNOW I can kick this at home with the meds I have I just don't want to take too many. Thanks to all.

The 15mg serax capsule equals at least 1mg xanax, maybe 2mg. Glad it helps. You should NOT drink alcoholic beverages when taking this kind of medication. The combination is frequently fatal. PLEASE use good judgement with this. I'm glad the Dr gave you something to substitute for the alcohol. Hope you are on your way to recovery!!

I talked to my psychiatrist today about something called serax it's what they gave me at the ER when I first got there and it calmed me down,I don't know when he will get it to me,so for now I'm just taking pieces of the valium for the shakes and my heart rate. When it gets over a 100bpm I take a piece,so far so good.I actually got some food in me today and haven't had a drink since 3:30am between midnight and 3:30am I had a bottle of 12proof wine and 3 beers,so I'm hopeful tonight won't be too bad.

You really need medical supervision with this...  Go to your doctor at least for his opinion

Hi...5mg valium every 2 hrs could add up to 40mg a day and you don't want to go there. I agree that valium is very sedating. IF you can properly handle it, I would say a 1mg xanax should eliminate panic, but 1: You must NOT drink alcohol!  2 xanax is addicting so understand you may need maintenence therapy for a while. Then taper REAL slow off that when you feel ready, and please don't escalate to a high dose!!! I can't stress this enough. The 1 mg xanax should stop the panic for a good 8 hours and should be taken only as needed. BE CAREFUL. Congrats on stopping drinking again!! Alcohol withdrawl is far deadlier than even xanax withdrawl..no kidding. Wish you the best, hope I helped.

It is good to hear from you.

10 mgs of valium won't kill you, but taking it every two hours is dangerous. That is a strong dose. I wish you could get to the detox. I hate to see you doing this at home, by yourself. That honestly concerns me.

Please keep us posted as to how you are doing today. Take care of yourself.

If you're really getting the DT's you need to seek medical treatment and detox under medical supervision.  DT's can kill you.

Thats weird that the valium still made you panic...have you tried xanax? Maybe that would be more useful to you. And it doesnt seem to cause sleepiness like valium does. At least that is my personal experience. Valium seemed to slow my breathing down TOO Much, and make me sleep. Xanax...it just makes me normal again. Just takes away the panic. Doesnt get me high, not sleepy, not hard to breathe etc.
I really do feel for you. I was incapacitated for years when I was younger from severe panic attacks. I know what you are going through. Many sleepless nights and just pure terror thinking you are going to die, and then getting so depressed about it. I was damn near suicidal from mine. I didnt WANT to die, or try to off myself, but I also did NOT want to live like that anymore. It was awful.

I now just get panic attacks on rare occasion (though recently they have stepped up alot since i started having respiratory problems again, they always trigger panic attacks in me). So i really know what you are going through. I hope you can find something that helps you, and soon. Keep us posted and best of luck to you.

I took the 10mgs of valium and felt myself falling into such a deep sleep it really scared me I started sweating and scaring myself into a panic attack,I had to get up and walk around the house just to keep from going to sleep. The weird thing is they give me the same thing in the hospital and I'm fine.I don't know if it's just because I know I'm surrounded by DRs or what. The 2 detoxes I'll go to are full for the next 2 days. And my wife is trying her best to keep me calm, but once I'm in my head it's very hard. Thanks for your response,I guess my only question is can 10mg of Valium kill,I don't know if it will help but maybe hearing it from someone else might comfort me a little.

I just saw your post as I was getting ready to go to bed.  I'm so very sorry things are going so poorly for you.  Have you given any more thought to inpatient detox and rehab like your doc talked about.  years ago when I still did bedside nursing we'd have patients come in for detox and then gradually add meds one at a time to figure out what would work.  The Valium will definitely help with the DT's.  Be sure to get a lot of potassium too - bananas, OJ, potatoes.  I know it seems like a lot every 2 hours but it really is correct.  DT's are very hard on your body so you need to take the meds to ease the discomfort and stress on you heart.  Keep posting - try to sleep and let me know if I can answer any questions or just "listen".  Is your wife helping you or up to her same old same old?
