What you CAN do:
They are both opiates so if you take enough ultram then yes it will lessen or do away with withdrawal. Just remember that methadone is a long acting opiate and ultram is not. So you can't take one or two ultram a day and epect not to withdrawal. I mean you won't w/d for now b/c methadone w/d can take up to 30 days depending, in some cases even 60 days.
What you SHOULD do:You should always taper off of methadone very slowly even if you are on another opiate. No more than 1-2mg/week or 5mg/month.
If you stop taking methadone and start taking the ultram and begin to withdrawal in a couple of weeks or a month it is b/c the methadone has just completely left your body and you are not taking enough ultram to lessen the withdrawal.
I hope this is helpful
