tramadol during pregnancy

Has anyone taken tramadol throughout there pregnancy? My doctor has prescribed it to me and I've been taking it. I'm about 39 wks and I'm just wondering if there are dangers from taking it?

I have severe chronic pain now known as fibromylija, I have been in pain for 10yrs now. I have two beautiful boys and had them before my chronic symptom's began.. Now for 4 yrs.' I have been taking tramadol just so I can get through the day. I want to have another baby but scared to because I take tramadol and I know I couldn't stand the pain without tramadol being pregnant because now im not pregnant and I cant stand it.
Just sitting at the computer I had to take two tramadol's just so I can write this to you.
Has any women out there had a healthy or non healthy baby while being a tramadol during there whole pregnancy?

I believe Ultram and Tramadol have ibuprofen (motrin) in it and at a late stage, I beieve after 24 weeks, it's not the preferred way to go since it can tend sometimes to restrict blow flow from the mother to the baby BUT as with all meds, if your ob/gyn pescribed it to you and he/she truly feels that the benefits outweigh the risks then I'm sure it' ok.  Also, you're full term so IF you went into labor,they wouldn't stop it because your baby is or at least should be fully developed.
Keep in mind that this info is coming from a person who was so high risk she was only able to get up 15 minutes a day from months 3-9, was giving herself injections in the stomach 2 times a day, had her cervix stiched twice and who was prescribed narcotic pain killers by a world renowned peri-natal specialist, whom I saw every 2 weels.
My daughter is perfect, well she's 2 and she's good at being 2 but she's perfect!

Non-teratogenic Effects
Tramadol caused a reduction in neonatal body weight and survival at an oral dose of 80 mg/kg (approximately 2-fold MDHD) when rats were treated during late gestation throughout lactation period.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. ULTRAM ER should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Neonatal seizures, neonatal withdrawal syndrome, fetal death and still birth have been reported during post-marketing reports with tramadol HCl immediate-release products.

Labor and Delivery
ULTRAM ER should not be used in pregnant women prior to or during labor unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Safe use in pregnancy has not been established. Chronic use during pregnancy may lead to physical dependence and post-partum withdrawal symptoms in the newborn (see DRUG ABUSE AND ADDICTION). Tramadol has been shown to cross the placenta. The mean ratio of serum tramadol in the umbilical veins compared to maternal veins was 0.83 for 40 women treated with tramadol HCl during labor.

Welcome to the forum Kailey... how long have you been taking it and how much? I have not heard good things about this drug pregnant or not... especially do not stop it cold turkey if you have been taking it awhile. But it looks like you are going to deliver pretty quick now! I would suggest doing a google search for it or calling the pharmacy where you filled it to get the most accurate information. Sorry I couldn't help more but when someone is pregnant I (most of us) don't feel comfortable giving any advice due to the fact that you are pregnant.
