tramadol for 1 week

tramadol for 1 week

I went to detox a week ago for a 2 year oxycodone addiction  They used soboxone to help withdrawals.
Everything went fine. On discharge he gave me script for tramadol 37.5   I have been taking 4 a day for a week
Am I going to have withdrawals if i quit.?

Why would this Dr. give you an opiate after you just completed detox?  Throw them away - the stuff was harder to get off of than the regular opiates for me.

Congratulations for making it through detox.  What are your plans for aftercare?

that sounds pretty crazy to me! I sorry but I have to say it he sounds like a quack to me.. i dont see the reasoning of him giving you an opiate right after you just detoxed off one and even took sub to get through the physical hell of withdrawl (withdrawal)! I think your best bet is to get rid of those things and FAST!

I agree with aim - this Dr. sounds like a TOTAL quack.  What is wrong with these Dr.'s???  Here you are trying so hard and committing yourself to recovery and then he goes and gives you this drug.   Unbelievable.

Thanks for your replys    I have already gotten rid of them. I was wondering
why i did not seem to be getting any better since I got out of detox.  man am I pissed.  I hope I am not going to have withdrawals.  I have been going to NA and AA   and IOP starts Monday

They are gone.

Actually I think given the short amount of time you were taking them, you should be okay.  You might experience a day or so of some discomfort, but overall it shouldn't be too bad.

And GOOD for you for getting rid of them.  You're doing all of the right things by attending the meetings and getting help through your detox so don't lose sight of those accomplishments okay?

.Good morning,

I woke up with the runs this morning.   Kinda weak.  Just feel yucky.
Drank alot of juice and ate a banana.
Took a hot bath.
Now I am resting.
This is going to be a long day but I am in this fight for the long run
.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
TAKE IMMODIUM, don't let the runs "run" away from you - get it under control now.  This was my biggest mistake during the initial phases of detox.  Take it and take it aggressively.  Hang in.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
Thanks,  IMMODIUM has seemed to help.  I hope this doesn't last long since I was on it for such a short time.

Never taken tramadol, but opiate is an opiate, My use wasn't heavy but long term so since you were not on very long hopefully it won't be bad.  It's Friday so you should be feeling better hopefully by the end of the weekend.  As hard as it may be fluids in, fluids in and fluids in and remember everytime you hit the toilet take the immodium.  That really helped me turn the corner.
Blank

o ya, I got so sick, been sick for two weeks now, but I took it for 2 yrs. Definitely take immodium, soak in epsom salt baths, if you get angry realize its the withdrawal. Wrap your legs with ace bandages to help with the RLS. Hopefully since you didnt take it that long it will not take long for you as for me the road just keeps going on and on and on.

I hope you feel better soon, remember every day is one day closer to feeling better.  I feel so fortunate my detox was not extended.  I saw you on FMS board, me too 12 years since diagnosed.

Yes, Fibro sux, but you just gotta keep working at it until you find what works, every day you never know whatcha gonna wake up to, trying to keep a sense of humor helps a lot.

1416133_tn?1337123898
Hey wmb... yeah I remember day those first 24 hours.  Pretty bad - you're in the thick of it now so just reminding yourself that withdrawal/detox is temporary.  It will end and you'll start to feel better.  Keep up with the meetings and just law low for a while.

I'd tell myself every night that I was close to getting another day under my belt and it helped.  One day at a time here.. I think you know the drill.  :)

Hi I see that you went to rehab for one week and took sub during that time. You are probably not experiencing withdrawal from the tram but withdrawal from the sub and the oxy you were taking before.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
I haven't had any oxy in 12 days    i haven't any sub in 5 days  the withdrawaqls did not start until i stopped the tram  yesterday
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
I am not sure if I have your timeline figured out.So did they only give you one dose of sub the day you went in.THen did they give you tram while you were in detox after that?  did you have nothing for the previous 5 days before entering detox because you said you started entered detox a week ago then you said you have been taking tram for a week.Sorry if I have something wrong here but you would have to have been 5 days clean entered and left detox in the same day and then started tram also that same day for this to have all taken place in a week
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
last oxy was on jan 22  went into detox on 23  had 1st dose of sub on the
23rd at 5 pm and every 12 hrs after 2nd day they started lower dose until sat. the 28th did not give me any on the 28th and then 1 dose on sun the 29th at noon and sent me home with script of tram 37.5 then i was taking 4 trams a day until yesterday at 10 am  woke up this morning in withdrawals

see if that helps timeline

Did you pick up any of the supplements or vitamins recommended during withdrawal?  I took them and couldn't believe how much they helped.  Fish oil tablets, b12 tablets, daily multi-vitamin and melatonin worked the best for me.  Also remember to stay hydrated and eat as best you can.  It makes a difference.

I also found having clean clothes handy and a comfortable clean bed (since I spent the first few days there - maybe that was just me though) - but still that kind of stuff helped my mindset.  And of course lots of movies and TV made for a good distraction early on.

Hang in there - remember you're almost into tomorrow!  :)

Oh ok thats what I thought.YOu were basically given opiate the whole time in detox (ironic)  and then given opiate to take home so now your actual detox has started upon discontinuing any and all opiates. You are not in withdrawal from tram persay, but opiates in general The sub is a very long acting opiate so it is still running through your system.  Just hang in there and it will get better soon. You can do it!  keep posting and let us know how you are.  I can't believe these docs sometimes. It's all about money with so many of them.

Avatar_f_tn
Some ideas to keep you more comfy or for convenience -  I kept towels on the bed, cuz I had accidents in the initial phases, kept changing my clothes and showering once an hour or so. I'm up and down through this but I know I'm on the down slide and I'm proud of myself.   Hang in there and just do whatever comforts you to get through it.  Off to the heating pad I go - I'll be thinking about you this weekend.

Hi WMB...
I just read your thread and wanted to add my support.  I am fairly horrified that you had this experience in a 'detox' facility with medical doctors.  I'm sorry this happened when you are obviously trying to reclaim your life.  I think it should serve as a cautionary tale to all...We must educate ourselves about EVERYTHING we put in our bodies and not rely on doctors.  Good for you for flushing the tramadol...Keep putting your recovery first, and I promise it will get better every day.

HYDRATE...Drink as much fluid as you can and eat small amounts often.  Bananas (full of potassium for RLS) peanut butter and toast, chicken broth...whatever you can handle.  Sleepy time tea is great to sip all day long..Helps with the anxiety and chills as well. Vitamins to support your immune system and brain function:  VItamin B6, B12, C (ascorbate) potassium, and magnesium.  Melatonin for sleep, valerian root for anxiety (nature's valium)
Move around as much as you can.  If you can manage a brisk walk around the block...I know it's the last thing you'll feel like doing but it will stimulate the 'feel good' centre in your brain.  Distract yourself with music, movies, books....Be good to yourself....And be proud of yourself.

Keep posting, someone will always be around....
Sending support...

Tramadol acts just like an opiate,so it was like you never really went off opiates at all, I could substitute hydro for tramadol, vise versa and never get sick. It might be everything all together for you. You may feel like crap but take a long hot shower or soke in epsom salts tub. I remember feeling so tired and crapp Uy my body felt like it weighed a ton. I am keeping my email open in case you need someone to talk to. I lost a brother to hydro and alcohol, if he had someone that understood, maybe he would still be here. I do and if I can help just say so.

I passed the 48 hour mark (2 days) about 30 minutes ago.  Slept off and on lIast night.  When i woke  i felt a little better but it did not last long. The runs have stopped. Withdrawal symtoms (symptoms) seem to come in waves ever so often.  The crawling skin is a nightmare I feel like I have the flu.
but as it is said, this to will pass, I am going to keep fighting .
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
GREAT job - just keep fighting through the crawls, I'm on Day 5 and I still had them last night, Aspercreme IS helping with it and every day it's getting a little better.  2 DAYS YEAH, please know that every day is a little better and yep it comes in waves, I crashed last night all sneezy, nose filling up and snakejones said that with opiates we dry the body out - get constipated, dry sinuses so when you detox the body reverses hence the sneezing, diarrhea etc - made a lot of sense when I thought about it.  Keep it up.

Hi there so proud of you, seems we are going through the same things. I thought it was over for me but this weekend was pretty bad. Still going strong for me too. Just took an hour long shower and getting ready to go get my little one. WOW tram sux so bad, LOL. It will come in waves over the next couple weeks probably...... I am still here, just had an aweful weekend. :))) I hated the skin crawls too, but to me it was the lesser of the symptoms, I would get fibro multiplied by 10, feels like someone was burning and grinding my muscles to death, lol. Send me an email sometime and let me know how you are.

Hi WMB...
Am happy to see you still hangin' in there!  Congratulations on 3 days!  72 hours is usually the peak of w/d and it will start getting a little bit better from here on out.  Stay hydrated and move around as much as you can.  Be proud of yourself and how far you've come.  I commend you for doing what you must to reclaim your life.
Keep us posted....

WMB,

First of all...Awesome work on the five days.  You are over the worst of it.  The skin crawls, or shivers are a normal part of detox.  Some w/d symptoms hang around longer than others and can come and go...It's all part of the process.  Keep warm, get some fresh air and exercise, and make sure you keep hydrated.  You've come a long way.  Be proud of yourself and keep on moving towards recovery.

honestly you have to look at how so many doctors are not educated enough in chemistry when it comes to opiates. reading this situation confirms this yet again for me.tramadol IS AN OPIATE it binds a little differently or should i say slower but f you are subbing one opiate to another(suboxone) and then  going to tramadol then yes my belief is you will experience withdrawal. may no be as bad as your experience from the first opiate but you will feel something. i was on suboxone in 2003 and i only stayed on it for a month and a half, i got myself off it with no withdrawl (withdrawal). if you use suboxone for a short period of time withdrawal is usually minimal. why would this doctor place you 2 steps back. throw them away, your withdrawl (withdrawal) will be better off at the point your at now. just my opinion tho. i mean **** look it's year 2012 and now i'm on methone because i relapse on pain pills 5 yrs back, so what did my doctor see fit? put me on methodone EVEN WORSE!!! i'm riding this one out CT on day 2 i think my doctors have helped me enough lol.good luck hope you figure it out. choose a plan and stick with it.

I know the creepy legs are the worst, mine still starts in at night but it does get less and less the further you go.  Years of opiate use doesn't go away over night and just remind yourself you get one day further from it every single day you don't take a pill.   Try to use the pain of detox as a good reminder why you shouldn't take a pill. I never want to go through this again.  Keep up the good work and keep on chugging along!  TRY to do something physical - a little gentle walk even if only to the mail box.  Get your blood moving and get your body engaged in some movement.
