tramadol withdrawls?

I've had my hip replaced twice since 2005. After my second replacement, because the first one failed, the VA doc. puy me on tramadol, 2x50mg/day at bedtime. I now have a new doctor that is changing my meds. When I changed the doc. told to taper off the tramadol, i only had 4 pills left so I only took 1/day and ran completely out just last tuesday 6/611. I haven't slept since, well maybe a half an hour or so. The withdrawl symtoms are worse then I ever had imagined!!! Last night I took some musle relaxers I had and finally fell asleep for about 1 hr. then I was awaken to uncontrolable musle movement in my legs and arms!!!! that lasted for about 4 hrs or so? I did manage to sleep for about another 1/2 hr before my alarm went off for work. I'm exhausted!!! I guess my question is HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST? I've been in a war and it was walk in the park compared to this!!! Is there any end in sight?

I was on Tramdol for 8 yrs and at a higher dose. I finally weaned myself off last yr. First whenever I would have missed a day or two w/o it i would get this odd zinging feeling going up the back of my neck and head. My muscles would also have a nervous, deep inside feeling especially at night. It was worse (I agree with "thisisreallygettingolds" statement) taking anything else w/benedryl increases restless leg syndrom. Benedryl alone should help for sleep... only when you need it!
I weaned myself off by reducing mg of Tramadol to 1/2 a pill (25mg) every other day. My symptoms diminished greatly. Hopefully you can control the RLS w/o having to take another presc. med. Good luck :)

Tramadol is a tough one. Since you took it for so long you probably should have done a slower taper. Anyway it may take a couple weeks to get your sleep back and the RLS to go away. Try eating a banana everyday....theres something called Hylands that OTC thats helps with the legs. A long hot bath before bed could help too. Good luck.

Yes, I think your post got over looked. Age makes a difference, I coming off hydrocodone though. Not sure about tramadol, but it does get better. That is a low dose, but age is a factor. You should repost the question tomorrow. One word of advice, if you take anything with benadryl in it causes restless leg syndrome. Thank for your service to the country.
