using methadone to come off opiates

Can anyone tell me the best way to use methadone10mg to come off of a 6 year 70 to 90mg use of percoset...I have real pain have had 6 back surgeries and a final fusion ...after 6 years of never being tested got tested and failed had pot in my system which i only smoked 1 time in 10 years go figure.Tryed to explain but he didnt careIn 6 years he never once tested my liver for damage or any other test for that matter..I dont know if I can get another doctor or not ..I am not a abuser or a drug addit used it for pain sometimes more than he said but only for my pain..I dont do other drugs..Now doc says too bad wean yourself withdrawls will be hell but it wont kill you.but doesnt tell me how...go figure that too right.....He had me on 120mgs a day of methadone and 60mgs a day of percoset...thank god i didnt take the methadone but every once in awhile..Or i would be additiced to it ... maybe i am dont know...never took it everyday only the percoset...please help

hi welcome to the forum.....well you dident say if you got anny perc"s left or not
if you do it would be better to go off the perc's by tapering then letting the methadone
get a hold of you..I did the pain pill thing for 10+ yrs and also was prescribed methadone
for 6 yrs for pain.im coming off 150mg over last 8 1/2 mo and it has been he11 to get off of
im down to 1mg now and the withdrawals su##s methadone is probably the worst of
the opoids to get off of...if you HAVE to use it ....make it a quick 1 mo taper break your
pills into 1/4s and use only what you need to keep withdrawals at bay start with 20 mg
and step down every 72hr by 1/4 pill you will still have withdrawals but they wont be as severe as going c/t if you stay on methadone for anny length of  time you will wind up with a worst addiction then you all ready have best of luck ...Gnarly

yes i have 20 percoset left he only gave me 1 week of my percoset til the test came back and a whole month of methadone ...that doesnt make scence to me but thats what he did ....and i have 20 of them left

Please try to do everything you can do without taking the methadone. Methadone does have a place but for a last option only. That is just my opion. I have been on methadone for six months and it did save my life but it is so hard and so long to get off of it. How many percs were you taking a day?  And you have 20 left right? You may just want to use those 20 to try and taper. I dont know I could never do it but that is because I am an addict. You may not have that problem.  If I had pills around I would eat them all.  If you are not abusing them and not an addict then I would suggest a taper, if you are abusing and you are an addict then I would suggest to flush them and go cold turkey. It is only real bad for the first 5 days or so.  One thing for sure, keep posting we are all here for you. You will get alot of real good advice just hang in there!!!!

your doc is a moron. he obviously has no clue about how addictive the drugs he hands out are.
there are more docs prescribing methadone for pain nowadays, which is insane. absolutely INSANE !!!

you are addicted whether you like it or not,sorry. anyone whom has taken them as long as you have, is going to become addicted,period.

get rid of the methadone, before it grips you like a IV heroin addiction.

The best way to use the meth is to not take it!! Its not suppose to be used for getting off percs. The best way to get off the percs is to either taper or ct it. By no means should you take the meth. I dont think the doc told you to use the meth to get off the percs because that makes no sense at all. Maybe another doc can help you get off the meds properly.

If u understood how the brain works during addiction/u would understand why he left u on methadone and took the percs..methadone is slow acting/not near as likely to be abused as oxy/percs..methadone is often not the high an addict will seek..and is whay it is used for adiction (addiction)..if it were a drug that gava a rush like hydro or oxy/there would be lines a mile long at every clinic///some like methaodne as a DOC/a few but most it was not their initial DOC..they r on it due to another drug with a better high/like oxy, hydro or heroin..etc

methadone does not give most the nrg buzz that oxy does...if u take too much u feel sleepy and tired//only curves cravings as a rule..again/methadone is a DOC for some/but not many..and possibly the reason ur methadone went untouched and theoxy di not?

You ned to stay under ur dr's supervision..but yes///small doses of methaone/20-30 mgs/ will help u thru this..what is ur goal?  ur ultimate goal?
