vicoprofen withdrawl(withdrawal) "cold turkey"

I've been on vicoprofen for several years now due to various arthritis conditions. I am in AA now for over 12 years. I want to get off the prescirbed narcotics, I know in my heart I'm doing the wrong thing, and am in my second day cold turkey. I feel anxious and know the worst is yet to come, and am wondering how long it will take to get back being a good husband & father again. I was on vicoprofen 7.5/200 and took over 10 per day for several months. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!  Congrats on getting this done and wanting a life free of the narcs.  Vicoprofen was one of my favorite poisons also cause I never had to worry about the acetemenophen intake.  Anyway Day 2 is pretty good -- Day 2 was always my worst day, but most people say day 3 is the worst and then it begins to improve.  Generally the physical part of w/drawal is is about 5-7..  The physical part should be over within a week.  Remember it wont kill you and you just have to give it time.  Take long hot hot hot baths and showers to help with the anxiety and skin bumps.  Walking is a great way to help with the anxiety too.  Basically though you gotta just give it time.  It will get better.   Glad your in AA and can obviously apply all you've learned there to your sobriety from narcotics.  Addiction is addiction.  And although w/drawal is horrid its a lot eaiser getting clean than staying clean.  Best of luck!

Of course, everyone is different....but I would say that by day 5 or 6 you should be feeling pretty good.  I am on day 7 today, and I did twice as many pills as you did for 3 years.

Drink lots of water, and eat as healty as you can.  Your appetite will get better and better every day that passes.  Also, force yourself to excercise.  Go for a walk or something.  It's really does help to get that stuff outta your system.

I agree with all of the above... Eat right.... Exercise... Push fluids...and if you haven't already checked out the Thomas Receipe....&/or Amino Acid Protocols... do so.. as it helped me to get thru the worst part...

Hang in there and keep on going to your meetings as you already have a good solid foundation there and you know the steps...all 12 of them!

Best of luck to you on your "new" ROAD TO RECOVERY...

Today is day three, still doing OK, just lethargic, anxious. I do have some alprazolam that is helping quite a bit. I will be extremely careful with those as well.  I'm going to a meeting tonight as I always do on Wednesday, Friday, & Monday. I'm taking it a day at a time like they say. I need to tell my Dr. thought as he will prescribe almost anything I ask for as I am a Dr. as well. (psychologist). The thought crosses my mind all the time, but I do want to be free of this bondage. Checking scrip dates, counting days, trying to get em a bit early etc. This is a lifestye I've been living for years....There's too much real diving to do. Glad now I don't feel so alone with all of this. Thanks and do keep me "posted"  Zappadaddy

I am glad to hear you are going to meetings.  Getting honest with your doctor will help a ton too.  Cutting our ties with our sources is empowering.  You are doing great so keep it going.........sara
