weening off methadone

I am on 200 miligrams of methadone and I want to ween down. My sounselor told me to start at 10 miligrams a week, but I am not sure if that is too much. He told me to try that until I get to 150 miligrams then go slower. What do you think about this? Is it ok to start off so fast? I really need help. I can't be sick, I have a 21 month old daughter to take care of.

HI and welcome to the forum....so your here to get off methadone...well you have come to a great place to do this there is a lot of support here and your going to need it...I had a 6 1/2 yr run on the stuff...I detoxed off 150ml ...it took 8 1/2 mo so this is a race won by the tortus not the hare....as for your clinic recommending 10ml drops ....at first that should be doable but your going to have to slow down a bit in the lower doses...we no longer post taper plans in the open forum but I was givin one by a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext...if you like I will send it threw the messenger to you it work good for me and I got off a lot faster then the clinic recommended...the thing to remember about tapering is to let your body be the final judge in when to drop doses it takes a couple of days to feel the drops so you need to give your body a chance to ketch up...if your experiencing withdrawals wait a few extra days for them to subside b/4 droping dose again...there is no completely comfortable way in doing this but the withdrawals can be managed if you taper right...in the higher doses you shouldn't feel much as you taper you will find certain doses that will give you problems just hang in there you eventually get past them...I will be out here if you have any questions...let me know if you want me to send you the taper I used
