HI Deb....well you should start to feel better physically soon but the mental part of the withdrawal can be just as debilitating...how long depends on a lot of factors one is how long you used...your dose was up there...also your age has a lot to do with it im in my late 40s
and it took me a wile to come back off methadone...the 20somethings seam to recover quicker for me the physical lasted a solid 2 weeks and then I cwas cstill sick for the rest of the month  it was around 90 days that I finely started to feel better but thats methadone for you ....I never detoxed off morphine but have watched others on the forum do so its different for everyone but you should be coming around soon ...hook up with some sort of aftercare it is vital in long term recovery and will help you with the mental parts of addiction theres more to this then just detoxing so put something in place good luck and God bless....Gnarly

Good for you! You're doing great. Think of how great you will feel. I'm helping my mom go through the same thing as you right now. The people on here are great for support at any time. We're all here for you. Just take it one day at a time and the worst is over.

Good to know about the countdown. When I passed 14 days (just  barely),  i found this board. Now I'm in the 40s and i have to agree energy is more normal!! Cravings still pretty strong though. Especially when i have to face a first.
Like last night, was my first Back to School night without pills. It was a big drag to get into the car, tired, hot and no pills. But I did it. Just kept thinking. This is my new normal.
anyway, keep it to this one day, or this one moment. and then add them  all together. You can do it.

How much morphine were you on and for how long? I always heard morphine and methadone were the two hardest for the physical WD's. It may last a little longer than if it was perc's or lortab's or maybe even oxy because the half life may be longer on morphine but regardless you have to be through the worst of it. From what I have read day 14 is the day to shoot for. That is when you take a turning point and start to get some energy and motivation back and then 30 days you get a whole lot of normalcy back and then 60,90 days are when you are starting to get real good and then after 6 months you are back! The cravings and temptations will last forever but I tell myself that sober life is better and funner than pill life so I am not so sure about how tempted I will be. I guess time will tell!

Hi Deb,

Day 5-7 is usually when the symptoms become easier, so don't worry, you're very nearly there.

Check the health pages (Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid protocol) on the right of the page for things that can help your symptoms.  The herb Valerian and the natural product melatonin can both help you sleep, and the Valerian's good for anxiety and agitation too.

The natural amino acid 5HTP can also be a great help.

Remember to limit your tea/coffee intake to half or less of your usual intake.

Not long now, so keep hanging in there, and it'll be so worth it.

Thinking of you.
