where can I find help getting off oxy's in Ontario?

Hi,

I need help finding a way to get off oxy's/perk's without being on methadone.
I am in Ontario and am finding it impossible to find the help I need.

Anyone here from Ontario that has successfully gotten off the pills can help?

sorry I don't make sense

Wow sounds like we have a lot in common.  I also am not the addict and it kills you to see them suffer.  Suboxin is expensive but is the best drug.  No thoughts of using and if he does he will go sick immediatly.  Cant get high off the suboxin though my ol man went from shooting heroin to being clean.  He was in Jail so we havta get him back on it its just a money thing though.  It even helps with alcohol and other stuff.  Its wonderful.  You are a wonderful women to fight for him and live through this I KNOW ITS HARD!!!

A dietery supplement called melatonin. Will help him sleep about 3 two 4 hours a night.Trust me please cold turkey is the only way out. In rehab no ciggs some rehabs give darvon and libreom. Thay are still opieds and benzoes. Quiting cold turkey is very pain full i know by taking methadone or sub the tast of opieds stays in your mouth much longer. Than quiting cold turkey and you stay sick much longer whene on any blocker. Like methadone or sub. They only keep you from getting sick and is a wast of money.Save money and time and quit.

He is going to have restless legs and deprestion any way he goes there is no escape from that.the two weeks of no sleep I would say he was almost done. Oxy is water base. Serious withdrawl last 3 to 8 days methadone last 2 mouths or so you will wd of sub to and it is just as bad as methadone. My brother went to the methadone clinic. For one week and droped of. It wasent that bad. He hasent done any thing since.I went to clinicfor year. It was really bad for me.My brother said doing the clinic for one week. Will get you through oxy wd.Hesaid you will not wd of one week of done.I think the only way to go is cold turkey.Being depressed will last a year or so. I am six mouths clean. And still depressed.

How does one wean down? He finds it very difficult... we've tried so many times... sometimes it's the RLS and sometimes it's the depression that makes him "cave".

Any suggestions or recommendations on the weaning process?
I think he's taking closer to 200-250mg a day range.

Okay this is what I was able to find.... I should have done this during the day, not many people around to answer the phone when people have questions..lol  anyways.... I called the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and they were able to give me and number in London for a centre there.  I didn't catch the whole name but the end part was Thames  Valley and the number is 519-673-3242 ext. 222.  You can ask them questions.  The girl I talked to said that they would have to do an assessment but it was all covered by OHIP.  I mentioned not wanting methadone and wanting to try subutex but she wasn't sure how widespread it was here in Canada for Dr prescribing it.  Maybe you have already tried them but if you haven't it sure couldn't hurt it call for info.  I also called a hospital and they said that most hospitals help with addiction so i would also call your local hospital.  There was absolutely nothing on the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons website.... not a very useful site...lol Last but not least maybe try calling a pain management clinic I know to get an appointment to see one you need a referral from your family doctor but maybe they could answer some questions on the phone or steer you in the right direction.  I don't know how much this helped, I hope a little anyways.  And yes I have a lot of time on my hands... I am on sick leave from work so this gave me something to do today.  Please let me know what happens.  oh wait.. has he tried to go to the emergency, maybe if he goes in and explains that he wants off they would help him.  It won't cost anything ( well except medication if they prescribe something)  I know the emergency has helped me out when my pain gets out of control so I would think they would help someone trying to get off pain medication.  Sorry so long... Anyways once again let me know what happens and good luck also let me know if there is anything else i could do to try and help

TO staying clean:
he can't quit cold turkey. he tried that and couldn't sleep for nearly 2 weeks due to the restless legs. that's his main thing. if he can get to sleep at night then it wouldn't be so bad, he says. and he refuses to go to rehab b/c he's under the understanding that he'll go through the same things there as at home, but won't be allowed to smoke cigarettes.

we need a DR that will give him sub; that's what he wants. he doesn't want rehab and certainly not metadone as it is harder to get off than the pills : (

oh! and a DR once gave him clonidine (0.2mg) but he didn't find it helpful...
I'm assuming the dosage isn't right but he's tried taking a few and it still didn't help

TO luppygirl
the only free rehab we found is in T.O. but he says they won't do anything for him except watch him detox without cigarettes and he refuses to do that but he can do that at home instead of being alone hours away...
I tried the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons website but couldn't find anything (I'm stupid when it comes to navigating websites, haha)... would you be able to help me with that part?

I know of a rehab place, I think it is near Windsor I would have to check with my friend to make sure.  It might be worth it to check your  benefits to make sure.  I am covered under my husbands and he is covered under mine and we both have coverage for that.  And there is no way they can fire you or anything if you go for help no matter were you work.  That is the law.  The only other thing that I might suggest  is to call or go online and check out the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons website they might have that information or if you call they might be able to tell you how to find out about subutex Drs.  Just google it and it comes up.  I know that here in Ottawa there is a Dr that works at one of the hospitals that is trying something new to help with pain and get off of oxy, my family doctor is sending me there but he couldn't think of what this doctor used.  The only thing I can think of is sub .... but i'll have to wait for my first appointment to be sure.  I wish i could be more help more but I would definitely check out the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons website they tons of info there

we're looking for a doctor that will give him Subutex...
I'm not sure about benefits. I doubt he has any and I'm pretty sure mine won't cover for him :(

Oh and also do you have benefits through your work because a lot of them will pay for rehab up to a certain amount.  If you have good benefits it could cover pretty much all of it

I should have mentioned that I am not an addict, my spouse is the one suffering. He is taking 100-250mg of oxycontin/oxycocet. He is really into the idea of Subutex or Suboxone but is unsure where to find a doc to prescribe. Methadone seems to be the easiest option but he does not want to trade one addiction for another. From what he has read, the wd's from methadone would be worse than from the oxcy or percs.

At this point, his mind is ready and he wants off ALL opiates immediately, but his body wont allow it. I understand that the subs are a narcotic also, but hes willing to take them for a while if thats what it takes to get off. When he has tried to quit cold turkey, the wd's keep him up all night. He tried once and went without sleep for a week. At that point the anxiety and lack of sleep made him relapse just so he could get some sleep.

He says now that the only thing holding him back is the withdrawal. Mostly the restless legs that seem to be keeping him up all night. Hes scared to death of going through the withdrawal, since he suffers depression he said hes not sure how much he can handle of the wd's.

I should also say, he had tried clonadine for the RLS from the withdrawals, but it didnt seem to do the trick.

I am not addicted but I have lived with a addict for 3 yrs.  I love him so much and KNOW he is better then what that **** makes him.  He was on methadone but would substatute and went on saboxin wich seemed to be a wonderful drug for him to live somewhat normal without having to deal with a clinic and stuff.  but their again he started using other stuff.  He is someone that cant use AT ALL!!  I REALLY APPLAUD ALL OF YOU GUYS FOR WANTING TO GET WELL AND GETTING OUT THEIR TO FIG IT OUT..

I just saw your from london, so that's a couple hours. Call that # and you can get some info. I went to the N/A meetings they held there and most were from the inpatient program. My aunt is also an addiction counsellor there and it's a wonderful program, and FREE so take a look. Congrats on looking for a way to get your life back. You can do this.

I am from Ontario, what part are you from? Georgianwood is 5 minutes down the road from me. I went there for some N/A meetings and was also evaluated for rehab, but never attended the actual rehab there. Right beside georgianwood is the mental health centre and superjail so lots to see, lol. here is link. good luck.

p.s. There are many here that have gotten off pills without methadone or sub, but since rehab is free here, i think it's a great idea to look into. I have been through georgianwood and it looked very cozy. There is also a # here to call.
