I posted all most the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I was taking methadone, hydrocodone, zanaflex, resteril & Valium. The people on here told me exactly what to do. They gave me hope, they gave me courage, they gave me strength.  I'm 12 days clean off everything. I get up everyday & go to an AA or NA meeting. My life is already better. I don't feel well. At times I have to get on here and beg for help. But everyone on here is so supportive. I've asked the same question over, I've rambled, at 1:00am I've gotten a response. 24/7 we're here. Don't give up. Real life is here for you. Your doing the right thing. I'm glad you reached out to us. WE CARE!!!!!

Hi honey, you can do this by yourself, it's just more difficult.  We are not able to give you specific taper schedules because we are not doctors and do not know your medical history. I can tell you that slow and steady drops in the amount of pills is key. You will go through mild withdrawals during this process.  With quitting cold turkey, the physical withdrawals are more intense, but will be over with more quickly. There are some things you can do to ease the symptoms. Staying very well hydrated, taking vitamins/supplements especially potassium, magnesium, and zinc. Plus, a good multivitamin. Taking Epsom Salt baths will help with muscle aches and restlessness. Take Immodium for bathroom issues. Get outside (I do understand that is difficult for you) in the fresh air even for short walks will help with fatigue.  Most important, you must cut off all sources for pills, whether that be doctors, or dealers. Lastly, you will need some sort of aftercare such as AA/NA meetings, therapy, counseling, church groups, etc. Getting clean is only the first step, and aftercare will help give you the support and tools to stay clean.

Take care, and keep posting with any questions or if you need support. I wish you all the best.

one more thing. any pain you have will be intensified while you are tapering and eventually withdrawing completely.
it is our brain trying to get us to use.
it will take a few months off opiates to truly know what your pain level is

Fist of all take breadth. It's okay! This has been successfully done so many times that it's impossible to count. Your habit is heavy but manageable. As you already know, this is going to s#c# but so what. Freedom is ahead and you won't die. We can help you through it but answer some questions. 20 to 12 is awesome but continuing this alone is not the best way if it can be avoided. Can you get the help of a doctor or at least a family member or friend to bring your usage down a little more?

Are these prescribed? Can you talk with your doctor for a proper plan? Most of us fail at tapering because we do it wrong, we do it too fast or we just can't handle it. You have not set yourself up for success with this hun. Floundering alone guessing what to do next is not a good plan.

Don't beat yourself up.
Most of us have tried to taper over and over.  Every script or purchase we get, we hope will be our last one and we try to taper but can't seem to do it on our own.
You have gone from 20 to 12 which is great.  Are you having withdrawal symptoms while doing it?  Do you think you can stick with the taper on your own?
Don't give up.

If your having trouble with tapering (which alot of us do!!!! b/c why would we want to feel like ****??) maybe it's time to employ a spouse, sibling, parent, friend, anyone to help you with this.  When your ready to quit you will know it!  Or perhaps, it's time to flush what you have left and go cold turkey....this is a way alot of us choose to do it b/c we just can't seem to stick to a taper schedule.  Would the w/d be less if you tapered????  YES, but will you stick to a taper?
If and when you're ready to quit, there are hundreds of people on this site that will walk you through every step of the w/d process and will push you in every way they can to succeed!
ARE YOU READY TO QUIT?
