Hi Amanda I am glad everything is good with you and your baby. I am having same similar issue accept I have bad migraines and I could not afford dr. I told my Ob but she would not do anything for me. Anyways I took oxycodone pain pill less mg. 1 every once in while in first trimester and this was before I knew I was pregnant. After I found out I was preg I was upset so I googled it and they said it was ok since I only took 1 when I was hurting. My migraine got worst later on so my sister would give me a 2 lorcets cause she said she done the same when she was preg and it would be ok. It was like in later in my 2nd trimester I would take 2 every once in while. Say 2 pain pills a month upon till I was 23 wks. I quit right after that cause I was scared for my baby. My question is will the hospital see that and contact cps cause I heard if you are Medicaid they can do that. I don't know in tx but I heard in other places. This is my 3rd baby and I never took anything with first 2 cause I did not have bad migraines then. Please help I cant sleep at night cause I cant lose my kids. I am 29 wks now and I know my baby wont withdraw or anything I am just worried! :(

If you take any kind of drug illegal or legal in the first few months the placenta can hold it the entire pregnancy and your baby will be born with it in its systems I had that happen to me and it's not fun social workers and CPS get involved and my son was born on subutex because quitting cold turkey off painkillers during pregnancy and cause withdrawal and kill your child. That's why I went to a doctor and got help. Be very careful because not everyone is out to help you I too learned that the hard way!

Its been 4 weeks since I stopped and I am pretty sure she is okay. I am closely monitored because I am diabetic. I go for a c section next week and I am pretty sure they do not test the babies first poop. They do however blood test.

You have fo talk to a medical proffesional about this. It is very VERY dangerous to stop any drug while pregnant. The optiates says in the babys system for much longer fhan the mothers. I dont mean to scare you, but it could result in a miscarriage and/or still born. Also, of the doctors suspect anything is wrong with your child at birth they will test and it will more than likely show he/she is going through dt's. This is when child protective services gets involved and you could loose him/her. Does your OB know you where taking opiates during pregnancy? I have seen the above too many times while working in an ER at a very busy hospital in FL.

I went through something very similar except my dose was not so high. I've been taking with Amanda since she posted this. I don't think you're giving her the ok to use during pregnancy, you're simply sharing a story, and you shared it very well.

When I got pregnant in March 2011 I was on a very high dose of norco and MS contin. When I realized I was pregnant I stopped the ms contin because it was a long lasting drug it stays in your system for a while after the last dose and it has extremely bad withdrawals when you stop. Luckily I didn't have very bad withdrawals and I told my dr I was pregnant. She advised me to stay on the medication and try to wean down to the lowest dose possible for my pain to be tolerable. I was taking 8 a day, when i stopped the ms contin I guess it made my pain threshold go way low because I was in so much pain I couldn't walk and laying down was excruciating. I was on 12 norco up until the very last day when they scheduled my c-section. After the baby came and had no withdrawal symptoms I went to see my dr and she informed me that when I was pregnant a dr in her office advised since I am taking soo much tylenol I needed to switch to methadone. She said no, so did my high risk specialist dr, and she told me that if I were to have been on methadone my baby would be in NICU weaning off the drug for 3 weeks or more. She said taking that much norco will give him withdrawals, but they will only last a couple days. Luckily he had none. He was premature because I was in so much pain my dr decided I had to do a c section at 37 weeks and his lungs were underdeveloped but it was better after a week. I had a really close relationship with my ob/gyn and high risk dr through all of this and that was the only way I was able to stay sane. Many people told me things that made me question my Dr, my high risk Dr, but I did what my heart felt was right. My mom and my family was there for me too so it helped, but you need to talk to your dr more then anything.

Why do you take these pain medications though? Is it for pain? Recreational? You cna be hones here, no one will judge you. Maybe some, but those people should not throw stones unless htey are perfect. I have diabetic neuropathy really bad, I have type 1 for 20 years so having children was already a miracle for me. Some people abuse this medication so it looks kinda odd that you have not said why or what you are taking it for... I hope the best for you and your baby. I hope I was some help. Please feel free to message me. There are other women on here that are really helpful too.

I mean no offense to anyone that disagree's with what my dr had me on, but I know some are itching to report me for posting my situation. They did last time. I really hope that no one thinks I am advising this woman to keep on taking anything I am just giving her what she asked for; a person that went through the same situation.

Everyone here gave you the best advice ever.. Tell your Dr! If you don't like a dr or don't feel comfortable enough to tell them you are on something that can potentially hurt your baby, SEEK ANOTHER DOCTOR!! ASAP! not because you think they won't allow it but because you feel you can;t even tell them for fear of getting a biased reaction. Good luck.

The best advice you will ever get is to tell your ob. It's hard but the only way to go. Cause of I hadn't I would have cps in my life. And even tho my daughter was not born addicted her first poop had opiates in it. And they already knew of it do didn't even think twice. You really have to sit down and think of what's best for that baby. It's hard I know.

This is where the selflessness of being a mother needs to kick in. You have to do what's best and tell your ob. They only want what's best for the baby and need to know that way if he or she is born addicted there will be no secrets. And the dr will have no reason to think your hiding this very important info. I didn't use my whole pregnancy but for a week and a half at 34 weeks. If u need any advice pm me ill be glad to try and help as best I can. But you really need to come clean to your ob. Because I know that using your whole pregnancy and just now stopping will most likely mean your baby will be born addicted. Hope not but if not that then they willtest him or her. :/ I'm sorry but it's true. Good luck mama. You can do this for yu an most importantly your child.

From what I know from personal experience the drug stays in baby's system longer and god forbid they test at birth. You need to tell your dr. Or cps may be gettin involved. Cause if the slight chances it is born unaddicted it will still show in the first poop.

I read some people on here take like 5-6 10s a day and everything was fine.I still have 4 weeks to go and I also get NSTs twice a week and also ultrasound and everything seems to be going fine.If the baby was with drawling wouldn't you see it in the NSTs. Zoloft can give baby with drawls and also the Atarax but I take them due to my panic attacks.

amanda, just because you didnt feel the withdrawal symptoms , that doesnt mean the baby didnt. when you are on meds during prengancy  they either wean you early in the pregnancy or maintain the dose and will do withdrawal for the baby after birth.
the baby is evaluated with a test called the apgar score , it tests for heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, response to stimulation, and skin color.if  any of these seem very off  they test the first stool (meconium) for evidence of the mother's drug use during pregnancy. On the basis of this CPS will get involved.
if you are honest with your doctor whether you like him/her or not they will be prepared to deal with your baby and the possible signs of withdrawal.

honesty is the best scenario in this situation.

I took Zoloft too.  It truly is a gamble, I also understand not wanting to talk to your doctor.  It's scary what they will say.  I wish you luck!
