I don't think methadone would be the answer if this is your first time trying to quit. If you gather up enough support, perhaps and addiction counselor or some meetings, than you should be able to do this and yes, your doctor can help you with some non-addictive medications to make it a bit more comfortable.
Check out our Health Pages here and educate yourself some. You can also find some suggestions on supplements to ease the withdrawals a bit and get your health back.
You can find them to the top right of this page.
Best of luck to you. You can get tons of support here. Keep posting.......

thanks for the feedback and well wishes....had a bad night. ...$hitty day today....I guess Its just like they say.."one day at a time"...good luck too all fighting this battle! till tomorrow
I would talk it over with you doctor let him know you want off them however i don't think I would jump on to methadone that trading one problem in for another what have you been taking how much and how long.I would read some of the threads on here about methadone research it alot before u consider going down that road .
Your doc can help you! Let him know that you want to stop the pills, but that it gives you horrible WDs. There are drugs besides methadone that he can prescribe to you that will help. And won't be as hard to stop as methadone. I took clonidine, a BP pill, and it helped a lot, but you have to ask your doc about it!
You can do this! Good luck!
