Someone might call fentanyl  synthetic morphine colloquially just to make the point that it functions as an opiate but is not derived from the opium poppy. But the point they would be making is that it is not morphine, it is purely synthetic. It is far stronger than the other opiates. Doses are measured in micrograms rather than milligrams. It is also true that the therapeutic dose and fatal overdose levels are closer to each other than in other opiates making it particularly dangerous to fool with. At times the cartels have spiked their heroin with small amounts of fentanyl,  each time leading to a wave of overdoses.

Please, please, please do not use fentanyl for w/d. I detoxed from it and it is nooooo fun. It is very very addictive and just not a good idea to start it, especially for w/d from another drug.

I have someone close to me that was just just in the hospital and was put on fentanyl, only in the hospital though. I have heard how strong this is and was wondering how bad that would be for an addict, even if it was just one day? I don't know about these drugs much and was wondering how safe it is? I have read it's 80 times more stronger than morphine and that seems crazy.

Its my understanding that Fentanyl IS synthetic morphine.  A VERY strong morphine, but still morphine.

Fentanyl is not morphine , it a synthetic version of it but much stronger. Using Fentanly for vicodin is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

Using another drug to get off another drug is really a bad idea.  All you are going to do is prolong the wd process.  If you have fentanyl in your possession i would highly recommend that you get rid of them.  Way to tempting.......sara

Fentanyl is morphine, Norco is hydrocodone.
Hydrocodone is schedule III, morphine is schedule II

morphine is about 20x stronger than hydro's

In other words... BAD IDEA!

only prolonging it, they are both the same class of drug..so unless you are only holding out till script day, you are DOING NOTHING for the w/ds accept making them worse being that the patch is stronger

I don't know abt. the patch,  it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl.  Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief.   Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ?    Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over.   I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes,  we just want it to go away.   I hope the best for you and I wish I knew more abt. your situation to give a good opinion.
