I was taking 100mg 3 times a day. i was also taking 50mg ER but not really sure for how long the doc said i can take it as needed. I was probablay on them for around 6 months
Dane--Maybe it doesn't do a thing for you BUT it does for many people...
I can't go into how it's abused but it is. If you take it too long or too much of it over time, you will have withdrawals. It's good you're finding this out now so you can be prepared. There are quite a few people on the forum who have had a horrible time with Tramadol/Ultram.
How long did you take Ultram ? What dose?
I dont understand how ultram is abused? It does not give you that 'high" that we all battle.I was on the highest dosage and it didnt do anthing to me as far as 'feeling good"
Yes,Ultram is a synthetic opiate. That's why it helped withdrawals. It's highly abused and prescribed. It also contains an antidepressant similar to Effexor. Now you know...
Okay...It sounds to me like you've got some tolerance built up with the Percocet. You could ask the doctor for a different pain med that is longer lasting. As it is,you're already going over your limit. I can suggest takig Motrin 800bg 3x per day with the Percocet. Also,
take only 2 tabs at a time. Take that evening dose later at night so it holds you longer.
That's all I've got...I hope it helps!
please tell me your experience with ultram? I am so confused about this drug. My pain management gave it to me for the WD's and i was surprised how well it worked! as for now i am taking percs and having surgery in march, after the healing process, i will begin the nasty battle of getting off opiates. Not only do these dam drugs control my pain, it also makes me feel great, i hate that. i find myself making excuses to just take a pill, my kids pissed me off,i feel sorry for myself due to anther surgery, and mean the list goes on. Also, when i am done healing and ready to kick the bad habit, my doc lowers the doses off so actually he puts me on a taper, and yes he puts me on Ultram to help with the taper process.I made it through the taper process and was off of all opiates and i was down to 50mg of utram, but then i damaged my hip and bak to the OR so now im back on pills.....UGGG
ultram is an opiate? I am so confused, i thought it tricks your brain into thinking it's an opiate. If this is the case no wonder why it helped me from the WD. Right now my problem is i am on 6-8 perc a day, i was only prescribed 6 a day and what happens is i wake up with wd's, i cant understand why i have wd's when i have taken 6-8 of percs throughtout the day?I do take 3 percs at a time thats the only way i get pain relief. I cant be dealing with the WD's now until have i recover from my surgery which is not until the end of MArch.

WHERE, in my two word response, did I say Ultram was a good alternative to pain meds
or a useful drug for withdrawal symptoms???????????????????????????????
Nowhere.
He said it helps. I said "I know". OF COURSE IT WOULD HELP. IT'S AN OPIATE.
Quit dogging me. Got it?
vicki595 - "I know..." Are you kidding?
Ultram is NOT a good alternative to the pain meds - nor is it a good idea to use this drug for withdrawals. Believe me I know. Try not to use this drug for that purpose or for any purpose for that matter. I have a LOT of experience with Ultram and it's definitely not a good alternative. It also contains an anti-depressant which makes withdrawals with so many people (including) me SO much harder.
I wish you the best with your surgeries and if your Dr. knows about your addiction, they will be very careful about what they give you afterwards as that is how they handled it with me. You will end up having to get off the opiates, and hopefully, after the surgery, you'll be able to begin this process. I wish you much luck. :)
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! And YES i did know that about Ultram, but i have to tell ya, the stuff works great with withdrawals....
Okay...Don't worry about this right now. You need to get through this surgery, then address the opiate issue.
When you're post op,tell the nurse/doctor if you are still in pain after being medicated.
Ultram contains a synthetic opiate. You know that, right?
We'll be here when you decide it's time to get off the pills and we'll help you through.
Post anytime with questions...Good luck!!
Thank you so much for your help, i am new to all of this chat stuff. I am going to have the Anesthesiologist very aware of the amount of meds i am on, the surgeon is already aware, but with previous surgeries, there was NO pain relief 2-3 post op. They usually send me home with Dilauid, and then i go to pain management to start the weaning process, he usually gives me Vicoden 10/325. I have found that Ultram has really helped in the past with withdrawal systoms. I must admit, not only because of all the surgeries approximately 18 thoughtout my lifetime, i do enjoy the dam opiates. But i need to and want to get off these dam pills after i recover. PLEASE people i am going to need HELP, this *****....
It's simple. You have built up a tolerance so you need to make the surgeon and any other doctors aware of this. That way, they can prescribe accordingly.
Also,be sure to let the anesthesiologist know exactly how much you take per day. That's important.
Can you take those two 6 pm Percocets at bedtime instead of 6pm? Just a thought...
After your surgery, are you going to get off of the pills or get to a lower dose? We can help you with that...
All the best...
