How are you today? I am just a bit ahead of you in my detox (five days today / was on 5 - 10 Norco 10s a day for over a year, plus over ten years of off and on pain med abuse) and really understand how you're feeling. Would like to hear from you. I have been on this site from day one; at first I just read because I didn't have the finger power to post. Now I am posting and getting great help. My family is very supportive, but I could not have made it this far without the people and their stories on this site. So, please write. Keep us posted. If I can do it, you can.

Bmdad is right about the Subs...you may be feeling bad because of them...

Just want to throw some support to you...definitely drink as much as you can, it's number one!  Hot baths feel wonderful and really help that deep painful feeling. Add Epsom salt to the bath water; your legs will thank you.

Stay in touch.  Ask questions. Lots of help here...

Congrats on wanting to get your life back. You have to be careful with the sub. You have to wait until you are in full withdrawals before you take it or else it will throw you into precipitated withdrawals which I have heard are much worse. I've heard you're suppose to wait at least 24 hours before taking it. If you are 24 hours in, and have already taken sub, then that may be why you felt as bad as you did so soon. I know withdrawals can kick in around 8 hours after your last opiate but normally you shouldn't feel too horrible until after the 24 hour mark with days 2 and 3 being the worst.

Like mentioned above, check into the Thomas Recipe. I used the Amino Acid Protocol which is similar to the Thomas Recipe. It can be found in the health pages which are located in the bottom right hand side of the page. It's a list a vitamins and supplements and I really found them to help. Also make sure you are pushing the fluids, eating healthy and most importantly, exercise! I know it can be hard to muster up the energy to do so but it makes all the difference in my opinion. I've been through withdrawals a couple times and the time I exercised it seemed to have made things go much smoother.

Make sure you aren't laying around thinking about how miserable you feel. Doing this will give your mind a chance to wander and you'll constantly be thinking about the pills. You have to keep your mind occupied. Rent some funny movies, pick up a good book, do a puzzle. Just find anything that you enjoy to keep you busy.

You have to get some form of aftercare such as NA meetings or an addiction therapist. You have to realize that you can't do this on your own. The withdrawals are the easy part. Once you get past the withdrawals we tend to forget how bad they were and think we can take just one more pill. That one more pill will land you back right where you started. Addiction is a lifelong battle and you can never let your guard down.

If you set your mind to it you can and will make it through this. Make sure you stick around this forum even if you relapse. Nobody here will judge you. If you do relapse, but stick around and post, I can almost guarantee that your odds are much better at starting the process again.

Hang in there. You can do this!

Best of luck!

Hi and welcome!  I know how hard day 1 is but congratulations...You're taking steps to take your life back so be proud of that.  There are things you can get to make the detox a little more bearable.  Have you looked up the Thomas Recipe in the health pages?  I used it and an intensive Vitamin regime and they both helped.  Also-if you are under the care of a doctor or can see on Clonidine really helps with w/d (A BP med commonly used in detoxing off opiates and non-addictive)  The first few days are really rough but if you stay hydrated and tell yourself you have the flu you can get through it and I promise life is so much better on the other side. I promise.
What opiate and what dosage were you using?  Are you on any other medications?  There is a lot of great support and advice on here....Let us know what you need....Sending support....Lu

ps
don't use the subs-everything I've read says they are harder to get of than almost anything besides methadone.
