withdrawal

Hi everyone this is my first post on here.   Ive been using drugs pretty much my whole life but in 2009 when i got back from iraq the dr noticed the ankle i broke in iraq was still broken.  Instead of treating it they just kept me doped up on pain meds for 3 months until i got home and could see a civillian dr.  On top of the insanely large amounts of pain killers they were giving me  and my orevious hidtory i was also diagnosed with PTSD and drinking and pain meds were the only way i could find to get out of the on edge combat mind set.  Im trying to quit using for at least the 10th time now and not soing so well.  Ive tried using suboxone from a friend before and that didnt help the physical withdrawal at all so now i am attempting to slowly wean myself off by using small amounts of percocet or vicodin.  Does anyone have any advise on how to get over the physical withdrawal symptoms?  Or weaing yourself off pain meds?  Thanks Kyle

hi kyle, welcome to the forum!!! first off, i just want to say what an inspiration you are to everyone, all of you, the job you do is something amazing.

I am not sure about tapering cause i went cold turkey, but if that works great, it should help reduce some of the withdrawels.  If you go to the bottom right hand side of this page you will see a link for the thomas recipe, it is a list of herbal meds that can help with the physical WD's.  For me anxiety and RLS where the worst, i found valarien root great for anxiety and sleep.  Tonic water and bananas helped with the restless legs along with really hot baths.

Have you got anyone to help you? friends or family?  aftercare is so very important, esp given everything you have been through, maybe look into local NA/AA meetings or therapy?

Keep posting here as well, this forum is great!! We are all in this together and together we can beat this demon!!
