withdrawel symptoms

withdrawel symptoms

After drinking 10-16 beers a day since 1970 I am quitting. It has been 4 days and I am feeling lousy. Are the following common symptoms?
1. flu like aches and pains
2. edgy
3. light headed
4. feeling helpless to a certain extent
Just knowing these are common symptoms would make this a whole lot easier. Thank you.

I know what you mean. These are the same symptoms I have. Only my addiction is with Pain Killers. Just think... you have gone this far... don't turn back now... Like the monkey said when he got his tail cut off.... "It won't be long now".. I am on my third day. It hurts and not fun. But I am trying this Thomas concoction that makes since to put back in your body what the drug/alcohol has taken out. Look up the site:http://pub37.ezboard.com/bthenewaddictionmedicineforum
Hope this works. God Bless

I am so proud of you.  That is a long time to drink beer and then decide you want your life back.  Once you detox and it takes a good month to feel like your real self, don't look back.  You will be able to experience the world around you, the air will feel different, you will notice the trees, people, flowers, birds and everything more than you ever did.  I am coming off of painkillers and this time I will not look back. I do have chronic pain, but, plan on telling my doc he has to give me something besides a narcotic.  I am 47 and never thought 6 years ago when he gave them to me that I would get addicted, but, I did.  I am so ashamed.  But, I am going to fix myself, my life, for me and my family.  You can do this if it is what you truly want.  Don't let the terrible withdrawal symtoms (symptoms) stop you.  They will go away soon.  Merry Christmas.  I bet this will be your best one yet.

Good luck to you my friend in addiction.. Take it one step at a time..That is the best way to go.Don't worry about what lies ahead, by the time you get there your'e going to be better and stronger than you were before.. I'am a 55 year old woman who has struggled with drugs, ()and alcohol, (beer) for the past 15 years, I have been to detox, treatment centres . I started drinking aND DRUGGING AGAIN FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS AND FIND IT IS TIME TO STOP!!!!!! BEFORE MY LIFE DOES... I want so much to be normal...sober...motivated, etc.  so please remember you are not alone and I will pray for you ...

It is dangerous to suddenly stop drinking like that, just as it is dangerous to stop taking certain other drugs. The sudden withdrawal of alcohol can cause seizures which, if they're strong enough, can be lethal.

I had a friend who was up to a quart of bourbon every day. That's 32 ounces I think. His doctor told him under no circumstances was he to stop drinking cold turkey after being accustomed to that much alcohol. He was to cut back to 30 ounces for three or four days, then to 28 or 29 for a couple of days, dropping one or two ounces of burbon a day until he was off completely. He was told not to be in a hurry to get this process completed as he could kill himself doing so.

Suggest you go to an addiction doctor and get a reasonable plan for getting off alcohol. The way you're doing it seems dangerous to me.

Best,
Frank

I know what you mean. I stopped taking pain killers after about three years. I was clean for about a month then started again. What caused you to start again? The reason I started back was the depression and despair I was feeling. the sickness was nothing compared to the depression. Can anyone tell me how long the depression may last. I thought for sure after a month I would be feeling fine.
