There are two sides to the sub debate. Its hard to get off of, no question about that, but doable. The other side is that subs can play an important role in helping the effects of opiates on the brain's reward pathways to fade over time, giving an addict a better change of staying clean when they decide to get off the subs. That was certainly the case for me. Its been so long since I've had an opiate buzz that my cravings have been minimal since stopping subs
really? what would you advocate them for? subs were made to treat opiate addiction
I don't advocate Suboxone for opiate abuse but since you are already there I have to suggest that you follow through with your doctor's instructions. Take it for the time he feels you need it and do the counseling..that is very important. When it is time to come off he will do a taper so you will be comfortable.
Make the most of this time to learn about addiction and about yourself.
I wish you the best.
yea he is an amazing dr,he actually didnt not make me pay the $300 start-up fee because he felt bad for me,i mean i've seen him twice and havent paid anything yet and i see him again on the 30th then i have to bring in $50,but yes there is also counseling through his partner they were both opiate addicts and he does the medical part and his partner does the counseling and stuff and they offer extra counseling free if you want it,which i am doing also i am just worried that if i do take these for 4months that i will become depended on them but i mean my heart is in recovering thats all i want that is why i want to be off these asap but at the same time i want to be completely emotionally and mentally ready so i think i am just going to wait till the 30th and talk to my doctor or set up a sooner counseling session so that i can discuss with them both the concerns i have about becoming dependant on these because physically when i dont take the suboxens as of now i am ok i dont get too sick just tired but i know with any opiate the longer i take it the more my body will become dependant on them....idk well thank you all for your support i will talk to my dr and see what they recommend so far they have not done me wrong i will update and let you know what goes on as i continue on my road to recovery!!!! thank you so much!!!
My apology, I was reading three posts at once, I got confused (which I do easily). I also think it is a good thing that he will provide you a taper plan over the next 4 months. I am hoping that you are following the program and in that time you will continue to work on YOU so that when you begin to go off of the Suboxone you will have some relapse prevention tools and you can continue with your recovery. What does he have you doing now in the way of recovery care, if you don't mind my asking?
In my honest opinion it is refreshing to read of a Dr. that does not want you on them for years.. They are a big money maker... I hope that he/she is offering counseling in this time period. I can not say how bad the wd will be. just wanted to say that although you are afraid of the wd it seems you found a Dr. that has your best interest at heart.. If you choose to follow his program get into any mental health classes he is offering and if he is not look for some on your own. I wish you well with what ever you decide..take care.. lesa
Question hun? Why exactly did you begin on the program in the first place? That would be the Suboxone Program I am asking about?
