probably not as bad as u felt jumping off at 20 mgs..it only stands to reason..how long has this stent of using methadone lasted?  10 mgs is a small dose is reality...not much stronger than using 10 mgs of oxy or hydro per day..just a longer half life so will last a bit longer

IOt is hard to say and we r all different..I would say "not bad" and often it is as bad as we think it will be//so expect the best//it will help u mentally//and the mental struggle is most of this battle

Can u ask ur dr for some safe drugs to help u with the sleeplessness etc?   i think u will be fine//but u have to think u will be fine as well

I would agree with worried, it probably will not be as bad as the 20 was.  You mentioned only taking 5mg every 3rd day.  You may want to consider doing a taper even from the 10mg, start only taking 5mg per day and on the 3rd day take nothing - see how you feel.  If that seems to be easier for you, then go that route to quit rather than jumping off the whole 10.  Like worried said, Methadone does have a longer halflife, so the withdrawal is longer anyway, jumping from the lowest dose will be the easiest.  Best of luck to you.

hey dude welcome to the forum...as for your question yes you could jump off at 10mg
but most of the people I know have had some prity bad withdrawals at 10mg.....
I think many people under estimate the strength of this drug I was also on it for pain
management got up to 150mg before I ended it ....I did a slow taper 10% ever 72hr
took like 8 1/2mo but it was the last 10mg that was the hardest I dont think people
understand at that dose you notice even a 1mg drop in dose...I went 1mg a week
down to 1mg and jumped off...if I had to do it over I think I would jump off at 5mg
the tapering below that level is shear he11 ....if I where you I would break one of your pills (assuming there 5 mg) into 1/4s and drop off one 1/4  a week till you get down to 5mg then jump off this will give you your best chance of success and the least amount of withdrawals you could take it down to 1/4 pill ..I know people that have
but the withdrawal I went thew felt just like I felt tapering at 5mg so I think you just splitting hairs at that point... with methadone I don't think there is a way to avoid withdrawals you can only minimize them....again there are alot of schools of thought
out on methadone you just have to pick one and go for it..you also have to get comfortable with the saying..."you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile"
there is no way of telling how long or how sever your withdrawal will be usually
the higher the dose and the longer your on it the worst the withdrawal.....
your on a low dose but you have been no it for a long time so it hard to say how it will be...I would think it wont be to bad if you jump at 5mg so thats the avenue I would take...god luck on what ever you decide..keep posting you will find much support here on the forum.....Gnarly

I have to agree with above statement that there is no easy way offf methadone. You will feel uncomfortable and there will be mental distress as well as physical aches & pains but it's not as bad as we tend make it out to be.
I was on a Methadone Maintenence treatment Program for 5 years and I went from a large dose to 45 to 30 and then down 5 everyday. Uncomfortable Yes, the runs Yes but you have to know it will pass.
Perhaps your Dr can help with some suggestions or a sleep aid?
Have you considered any suboxone treatment? It will help but eventually you will have to kick that also. But it may be easier.
Good Luck

Could anybody (from experience) tell me the average length and severity(would you campare it to percs?) It is coming off of suboxone?  I'm currently in the 3rd day of coming off 30 mg per day of methadone. I got injured pretty bad while serving in Iraq, I was the gunner in a truck when we hit 2 IED's (roadside bombs) at same time. It was 1 on eachside of us. Anyway I'm on methadone because I was taking about 30 7.5mg percs a day. I want to get on suboxone I hate how tired methadone makes me ALL the time. Thank you for your help.

Hello All! I sure hope someone still reads this board! I''m very frightened. I became addicted to high doses of Norco for 4 months after being off of it cold for 8 months. Very unhappy with myself I  allowed myself to get back on it. I'd been Norco addict for years for 4 years at 155 mg a day & went through hell getting off then had crisis in my life & went back to it. Went back to Norco gradually got me again & would use up a bottle of 90 up in 2 weeks. When I'd go off/run out my pain from old injuries came back plus horrific 3 week w/d. My neighbor said "here take one of these in the morning & you'll be fine, not knowing what it was I took them, 10 mg a day (it was a miricle at taking away ALL w/d from Norco but being the addict that I am I'd get the new script for Norco & start over again. My question (sorry I write so much) is I take 10mg Methadone (my neighbor finally told me what it was but I had no idea a out it I just thought it was for pain) every morning for 2weeks at a time each month. What sort of w/d am I going to go through at that amount. I've been doing this for a out 5 months every 2 weeks. I thank anyone out there who can help me with this as all the info on the web is for very high doses over long periods of time. Blessings, Kitty Momma

Kitty Momma,
You should research ANYTHING you are going to put in your body. Norco is like Vicodin, which is a lot weaker than Methodone. Whoever "helped" you with the methodone was NOT doing you any favors. The Norco will take about a week or so to come out of your system and is a mild detox compared to the Hell of a withdrawal you will eventually have to deal with when the methadone fairy runs out. Please do not take any more, or you will be making things so much worse for yourself!
praying for your wellness,
Loripoo

PS: I am out now, took the last this morning & I don't know when she will get more for me to taper. If I go back & take the Norco three timeS the day as I'm supposed to then tapped off of that which knowing about this Methadone stuff is motivation enough will that wheels with w/d? Also they always do a drug test at the office, will this show up?

I'm going to come off of 10mgs of methadone..I have came off of a lot higher dose of roxy's before. I was taken 40 to 50 a day and got thrown in jail. Needless to say I got sick, but I lived and felt good later. I'm kicking myself for getting back on something else but I've never taken more then 20mgs of methadone and I'm down to 10 now.. any idea how that's going to be?

They do not care how bad you hurt. If anybody does not believe me I will post my name address and phone number.

I HAVE GOOD INFO FOR OPIATE WITHDRAWAL SUFFERERS!
I myself have come down from 112mgs of methadone to 14mgs all on my own over the past 5 years. I was in so much agony I researched everything to try and find some help. I tried this natural plant called "Kratom" from a reputable source on the web. (there are a few good places you can purchase it from, if you have a credit card.) I swear to you that it takes that horrible agonizing edge off of my withdrawals so I can lay down and watch TV and sleep at night without the wicked sweats, awful repetitive thoughts and restless legs. It is NOT an opiate, rather an opiate agonist. It hovers over the opiate receptors but doesn't "stick" like other addictive opiates do. This ground up leafy plant was a Godsend to me, which I drink as a tea with sugar and creamer. Sometimes if my tummy is too upset I mix it into chocolate milk. It's alot tastier that way. I just wanted to share this info, I know what it's like to suffer from methadone withdrawal. This wonderful plant has saved my life. I have leftover Kratom to get offall of the M. I intend to use my tea until I feel good enough to stop needing it. I will be withdrawing from the last 14 mgs this fall. Hopefully by next Xmas I will be done with all opiates and living my life completely clean and free. Good luck to all who are on the same road!

Im going through a similar situation and also could use first hand advise. I detoxed myself off heroin IV with Methadone starting at about 40-50mgs a day (15-20mgs once in a.m. and again in p.m.) and now three weeks later I've tapered down to about 10-15mgs a day. Some days I feel like I only need one 5mg dose and other days I feel like physically I need 15mgs. I know that methadone has a strong half life so I'm assuming the day I feel the need for more (usually every 3rd day) is due to the dip in half life from the previous two days with less. I'm having a hard time getting my body (and mind) below 10mgs a day. The worst part is first thing in the morning when I wake up with horrible anxiety, heart racing and stomach in knots with bad gas pains (my stools are more frequent than on H but still not normal or frequent enough). I usually take my first 5mg dose upon waking and as long as I'm up and walking around, the stomach pains usually subside within an hour or less. I have a recent history of ulcers, GERD, IBS, occasional anxiety (most likely due to withdrawal), and rheumatoid arthritics. Since I am subscribed 10mg tablets they are hard to break down into less than 1/4 or 2.5mg parts. Yet I still feel even a 2.5mg drop if for more than a day. I'm wondering if I'm better off going cold turkey or doing a 2.5mg drop once every 3rd day until I'm down to one 2.5mgs a day then completely stopping? Will I still feel the fatigue, discomfort and irritability? Or will it be much less noticeable from 2.5 to nothing than from 10mgs to nothing? I don't have the option of being sick or disfunctional and I have a child to look after. Every time I've tried dropping too quickly the withdrawals have caused me to go back to H and then having to start the detox with methadone all over again. Im wondering how long I should wait to drop increments so it's not so noticeable or if at under 10 or 5mgs it doesn't matter and the WDs are inevitably the same regardless. If so, I'd rather not prolonge the process. And if I do go the -2.5mg every 3rd day route, how many days after my last 2.5mg dose will I expect to feel physically comfortable and less anxious? I'm supplementing with high doses of Omega 3 and Vitamen E and very high Vitamen B supplements as well as a whole food Adrenal Plus support capsule (I take half the recommended dose since the full dose makes me jittery). Could the vitamins be causing my body to detox faster? What else that's OCD or natural that I can take to help make the process more comfortable? Going back to using H is NOT an option any longer. My goal is to be 100% off pharmicutical drugs. I should also mention I began taking Wellbutrin 150mgs a day about 3 months ago and that has helped with the fatigue especially in the morning. Any suggestions? Thank you.

In bad withdrawals?
Do yourself a huge favor and research "Kratom." I was so sick from withdrawals that I was contemplating suicide. I was so desperate for some relief that I started researching "Opiate Withdrawal help."  The info was staggering, but I found something precious.  I read about the opiate receptors and how opiates cling to them, and why I felt so sick. I learned there is a natural plant that grows in Indonesia called Kratom. Apparently, the indigenous people chew it for pain killing and energy giving properties. It's not like morphine or heroin where you get addicted and can't stop without debilitating symptoms. Kratom is actually in the coffee family, and some strains like "Maeng Da" give you caffeine like energy. This one was too strong for me. I prefer the "Thai Red Vein" because it is more calming. All Kratom strains have the opiate withdrawal relieving and pain killing properties. This is only my opinion. Yours may be different. You just have to try out the different kinds to find the one you prefer.  There are a few companies that are legitimate online. I have slowly gotten off of 112mg all the way down to 14mgs over the past 5 years with the help of this amazing stuff. I'm not selling anything, I have nothing to gain by sharing this info. I am just amazed at how much softer and kinder my withdrawals are after I drink a strong cup of Kratom. I know I can get off the last 14mgs with this stuff. I'm planning on going down 5mgs in the fall, then waiting two months, and jumping off from there to zero if I can handle it. I can't wait to be off methadone, I've been stuck on it since 2003. I will update my progress to share my experience with you. If I can do this, so can you! RESEARCH KRATOM. If you try it during withdrawals, it really takes the edge off. I even use it while I'm getting my tattoos done. It makes the needle feel dull, like it's not as sharp, so I can sit for over 3 hours. I wasn't able to handle more than 2 hrs before Kratom. It's really awesome stuff.
If you try it, I know you will be amazed like I am!
Good luck,
LOVE AND LIGHT
