short term...xanax can be ok...but if u become addicted to it it is another problem to combat later on...xanax has to be tapered to quit as do all benzos....sleep is important to recovery so finding a way to sleep is important...without sleep, people can become weak which can lead to relapse....have u talked to ur dr bout the sleep issue?  valium is a safer benzo/still addicting but not as strong as xanax....there r safer sleep meds..ambien and lunesta altho i have heard of people abusing those as well...not physically addicting as a rule tho....valerian root and ambien is what i used...many like melatonin...then there is benadryl which is usually the ingrediend in otc sleep aids like tylenol pm....anything a person uses every night to sleep can become mentally habit forming tho..even nyquil!  caution as with all things should be used...but i do hope u get some sleep

I know you probably have your plan all set up but at this point if I were you I would just bite the bullet and quit. Tapering down even more really isnt going to make too much of a difference in the intensity of the w/d's, its really only prolonging the agony. Now were all different and you may want to continue to taper which is fine, but at this point I just dont see it making the w/d's any easier. The good news with short acting opiates like norco the withdrawals usually last about 5-7days before you notice a big difference. There can still be some mental symptoms like fatigue, depression, anxiety or trouble sleeping, but the worst of the physical discomfort should be over. About the xanax I dont see a problem with it, I dont recommend it to people because Ive seen so many people go from opiate addiction to benzo addiction after they had been trying to get clean, which they would off opiates but benzo's have their own nasty w/d's. If I were you I would wait to use the xanax until you completely stopped the norco, that way you would get the most relief possible with a lesser dose. Like worried said there are other options to help you sleep whether they be RX sleep meds or OTC meds. Ofcourse if you can get by with otc meds like melatonin, valerian root, l-trytophan or the diphenhydramine among others then your less likely to develop a problem. When I came off suboxone this last time I had 14 lunesta prescribed to me, then I switched to remeron and melatonin after that. Sleep is very important especially for the first 2-5days during detox, it was always the biggest hurdle for me to overcome when coming off opiates. In the past I tried alot of different sleeping meds, but for me Lunesta worked the best, but ambien also worked okay, but there more likely to be habit forming or abused than your typical OTC sleeping aid. I always do this start rambling on, anyways like I said if it were me and I was down to where you are I would just quit and expect about a week of moderate w/d's. You've done very well to get your dose down from 150mgs to 10-20mgs/day, now getting it down to something like 5mgs/day wouldnt hurt anything, Im just not sure that it would help all that much either. Whatever you choose to do we are here to support you, this place has tons of caring people that are willing to help you throught the process. If you wait to use the xanax when you quit norco for good, it will really help you more than if you start taking it now while your still tapering. Another medication that can help during detox is some clonidine, which if your doctor is prescribing you xanax they shouldnt have any problem with clonidine, it can help with the sweats/chlls/rapid heartbeat etc. Antoher good thing to have on hand is a ton of immodium, cant tell you how important that can be. Alright Im done rambling, if you have any questions feel free to ask, keep posting about your progress. In the meantime you take care!

Hi Sam, if you take xanax for 3 years you can not go CT on them, yo have to taper them off very slowly. But IMO, I'd wait a little to be completely off the norco's wd's.
Best of luck to you. xoxoxo. sophie.
