xanax withdrawls?

by slatch, Mar 31, 2009 08:18PM
I'm ten days clean off opiates.  I've had pretty bad anxiety and it's gotten worse since I quit and have been prescribed xanax along with an antidepressant.  I have been taking about 5-6 .25 mg tablets of the xanax for the past few days.  I never realized they were addictive and had a withdrawal too until reading a few posts on here.  Another addiction is the last thing I want!  Anyone know how much and how long you have to take the xanax before you risk having withdrawals?  I don't want to withdraw from anything ever again!  Thanks

Get off the xanax as soon as possible, I wouldn't advise anyone to take that.  I know your Dr. did, I hate that too, !

Perhaps you could take it for a week or two, but you sure will need to wean off very slowly.  It does mess with your head if you just quit all of a sudden.  Only speaking because my son took it for awhile and he said never again.

Yeah, you're right.  I've been looking into it- I'm going to just take one a day for the next couple of days and save the rest for the worst days.  Thanks!

You dont want to go through a benzo withdrawal, in some ways it can be harder to deal with than opiate w/d's. Trust me Ive made the mistake a few times when coming off opiates in taking xanax for periods of time and it made me pay the price. If you can keep it under a couple of weeks then its really not a problem, but any longer and you can have some degree of w/d's. Just be really careful, xanax or any other benzo is nothing to take lightly. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery, take care.

Stop right now!!! Taper for a week. Believe me you don't wanna taper from long use of benzos. Xanax is HIGHLY addictive and you're already taking 2mg a day. Just go thru the wd's of the opiates. I know it sounds harsh but you gonna be so thankful you didn't get hooked on a benzo.
all my strength and support. sophie.
