Best opiate to taper off?

What is the easiest opiate to taper off of?? I have been on methadone for a few years and finally down to 1 5mg tab per day....... However...... Eventho this taper is done by my doctor I wander how or if this is the easiest one to taper off "WITHDRAWL  wise?" I have heard it is.....however I don't see how it can be due to the fact that it stays in your fatty tissue for at least 3 weeks?!??? I'm already feeling pretty miserable all day everyday, and can't imagine I'll feel better until the very last drop is out of my system.... Which is supposed to take 3 whole weeks.  People on here say WITHDRAWL usually gets better after 4 days, but does this apply to methadone?  Should I have my doc move me from 1 methadone per day down to a fast acting opiate.... I just don't want to suffer for three weeks.... HELP!!

Methadone can be a longer withdrawal than most opiates. We do it in a hospital under sedation. When you do it at home, everyone is different of how long it will last or how severe it is. It sounds like you have a doctor helping you, what is great. Try to minimize your anxiety and play it by ear. Based on your symptoms , see what your doctor can help you with…Make sure you keep hydrated and have someone with you to help if needed. Best of luck…

Coming off any narcotic takes time. Even though the drug is out of your system your brain is still programmed for it.  You have to make yourself get up and get active so that your brain will start producing its own chemicals. I have read that this can take up to 1 year.  Also coming off 5mg is no different than coming off 50mg.  Your gonna be sick!
