Narcotic analgesic

Are Doloxene, Dologesic and Doloxene Co. narcotic?
Is it addictive on prolonged use of the above drugs?
If yes, why doctor always prescribe regular dologesic or doloxene Co. to patients?

Janet...the answer to your first two questions is YES.  They are all narcotic analgesics with abuse potential, especially for individuals prone to addiction.  They are comparable to Darvocet or Codeine with Tylenol; Doloxene is the trade name and it is manufactured in the United Kingdom.  Dologesic is made in Spain.  As to why the doctor prescribes them?  Many chronic pain diseases are managed with regular use of such medications, and when taken as prescribed, may not cause any problems. It is preferable, of course, if people can learn behavioral techniques to manage chronic pain syndromes.  If a person were to find themselves increasing the amount and frequency of taking the medication, there is reason to be concerned. They should absolutely inform their physician of this, so that they can arrest the progression of the situation.  It is always a good idea to try to manage pain syndromes with non-addictive medications whenever possible.  Some anti-depressants, in low dosages, have been found to alleviate some chronic pain conditions, for instance.
