Recovery, and hairloss linked?

Im not sure where to ask this , but this forum seemed like the best place, im currently 43 days of suboxone, 5 years of opiate, methadone , and suboxone use im 26 years old,my hair is fallimg out more and more , im scared to touch my hair, i counted around 40 hairs in the shower today, at first i thought it was the clonodine, but itx been more theb a week since my last dose, i use ephedra i do not abuse it, i was told my hair is falling out because of my sensativity to stress, or nervouseness, i would like to know what you think of me getting on fanesteride/proscar this early in recovery, i really want to hold it off, but o dont know how much il hair il have left by then, this is also taking a vig toll pf me my hair was my fest feature , so im sute you understand my nerves, thx

While I was taking methadone and during my detox I lost a lot of hair. So much so that it scared me. But it will get better. Try not to stress it makes it worse.

When I was doing heroin my hair literally thinned out by a half. It is a side effect of doing it and opiates. It started recoverying within a couple mints. Now that I am weaning off the norco I have been taking (down to 1g per day) my hair is back to its old thick unruly self. What a difference it is. Plus it grows super fast too.

So yes it does affect your hair in a bad way. Can you taper off and quit? Your life will be so much better sober and clear headed after you recover.

Hair grows in cycles and some times we have more hair loss than others. Stress will certainly cause more hair loss. And opiate withdrawals causes stress. When you take opiates for a long time like you have, your body's physiology has been altered. Your central nervous system has created a multitude of opioid receptors that all are screaming for endorphins (opiates) to fill them, but your body has now forgotten how to make them by itself.  It will take time - two to four weeks at least, for your receptors to down-regulate (for the brain begin to heal) and to start making its own endorphins. Brain heals pretty slowly, so it may take you as long as a couple of months to get rid of feelings of sluggishness, restlessness and depression. The best thing you can do is take good care of yourself, eat healthy food, stay hydrated, keep active and busy. Stay away from sugar, soda, and simple carbs. Do not consume caffeine at least 6 hours prior to bedtime.
