by dana023, Aug 06, 2009 12:17PM
Hello, I am 33 YO female have been smoking since I was around 19 years old, I just quit cold turkey on Monday Aug 3rd at 930 pm was my last cigarette...tues and wednesday night i woke up about an hour after i feel aleep very dizzy like the room was spinning, confused as too where i was (which lasted about 6 seconds) and a pounding heartbeat. It also happned during a nap on Tuesday. Last night It happened 3 times...this is very scary and I almoset feel like i would rather smoke...Can somoene please tell me if this is just a withdraw effect from nicotine and how long it will last? I dont remember this happening when I quit while i was pregnant but i had been tapering myself down instead of going cold turkey per dr's orders.

hi
i quit a few years ago.  i remember having some weird awakenings kind of like that.  and sometimes just in the middle of the day my heart would start pounding like crazy for no apparent reason.  after a couple weeks things were pretty normal, and it was easier to stop thinking about having a smoke all the time.

one thing that helped me was to drink *alot* of water, like almost constantly.  gives you something to do, and the frequent bathroom breaks are almost like the smoke breaks lol.
plus drinking water is pretty good for you all around.  I kept that habit and I think it has improved my health in general.
good luck to you.  I hope you stay a quitter.  after a week it gets easier.. after two weeks much easier.  but if you start again, don't beat yourself up over it!  its not a failure, just a step in the right direction.  keep trying, took me 3 tries but each time was easier to tell you the truth and the last one worked :)  good luck to you.

Thanks for the help, yes the crazy awakenings finally went away after about a week ! Thankfully !!!! Im happy to say that it has been 1 1/2 months so far without a cig and man do i feel GREAT !!! although on friday I was at the Toby Keith concert in my town and I really really wanted a cig but husband kept me away !! Other than that I havent even craved them..I actually get mad at myself sometimes thinking how could I have been addicted to this NASTY habit for 13 years !
