Subutex, just starting treatment opiate addiction

by maytwoodward, Jul 19, 2009 09:38AM
Hi, I am on day 3 of taking subutex, I am confused what is reaction to subutex or if it is withdrawel from the percocets. I had been taking around 5-12 a day. I feel very speedy on the subutex...and am sweaty and anxious. He started me on 4 mg twice a day. I feel pretty good :) then I start getting akathesia, can't stop moving or concentrate or sleep. Want to try and see psychiatrist tmrw. I don't know why the subutex is speeding me up, I'm honestly not sure of my normal energy level.

On Suboxone or Subutex, you will have your 'tolerance' set at a level equal to about 50 mg of oxycodone per 24 hours. If you were on a dose of oxycodone or other opiates equivalent to significantly more than that, there will be an adjustment period for your tolerance to come down to that level.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell whether a person is in withdrawal vs 'narcotized' (the opposite of withdrawal).  The easiest way to tell is to look at the pupils in a dimly-lit room.  If they are big, you are in w/d;  if they are tiny, you are on a dose of narcotic higher than you are used to.  The only exception to this is if you are taking demerol (meperidine), the only opiate that dilates pupils.

The same thing happened to me when I started the suboxone. My dr told me it was partly w/d and partly the sub getting in my system. After 4 or 5 days I started to calm down and sleep alot better. I am not a dr but in my opinion, I think it is probably a combo of both. Give it a few days...hang in there.

I am just rying to pay it forward...alot of people here helped me.

Ya my brain was foggy for a few days too. That is also part of the w/d. Just hang in there a few more days and you will start to feel better once the sub is in your system.

Hi May,

Sweating is a very common side effect of the Sub... hubby and I both had that happen.  I actually had to stop taking it because I was allergic.  My throat started to close and I had trouble swallowing!  Also my feet and ankles got SOOO swollen!!  So now, I am back on my pain meds..  :(  I wish YOU luck though!!

Hey, thanks for you answering my subutext question, I am starting to hallucinate when I take it, which I never did on the percocet and my whole body feels swollen, very uncomfortable, I never hallucinated on the subutex, just the suboxone ...glad you got off the suboxone, I mean it is still a drug, so I think I'ts right to go for the onle least damaging to a body and spirit, Thanks for answering I haven't checked in awhile
