Using Gabapentin for opiate withdrawal

Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).

So the real question is at this point it's been about 3 days, and I'm wondering if I continue til I feel the withdrawals are gone, will I experience negative effects or dependency on the GABA?

I do not want to be addicted to anything anymore.
Thank you!

You should not have any dependency from Gabapentin yet if it’s only been 3 days since you started taking it.  As long as you do not take the Gabapentin for long periods, you should be okay.  Also, Hydromorphone withdrawals usually only lasts about a week – you probably already went through the toughest phase of the withdrawal.

Now, it’s time to allow your system to find its base line and start functioning naturally.  You have done great and should be very happy with the results.  Congratulations!

Is Gaba' so very different than Pregabalin?  I have tried both but ended up on Pre'.  Low dose 50mg x 2. Side effects prevent higher dosage, extreme dizziness & affects my moods as well. Help my pain too. Thanks

Gaba is mainly used for nerve damage but is not addictive.  Its very similar to Alieve.  I would be mindful of your liver.  Taking high doses that need to be broken down can be harmful.  gl.
