You can definitely get false positives. Some toothpastes and mouthwashes will do it. So can perfume or after shave. I've proved this to the nurses in an addiction detox hospital. I don't think vaping can do it though? Not unless they were using a very unusual solvent?
Anyhow, thing about false positives is they drop off fast, so if you've been drinking your alcohol level will fall slowly and another test 30 mins later will only be slightly less than the first result. False positives drop rapidly because it isn't really in your system, the breathalyser is just picking up something that's there transiently. If you get hauled in because of something you think is a false positive, demand a second test (most places do this anyway because of what I said above. A blood test is even better but not everywhere does those.
