addicted to 60mg a day of pers & pregnant

Hi all,

If any of you have been thro an addiction to Oxys, Vicks, and/or Pain meds in general while pregnant please respond.  Did your child come out with problems because of the meds or did he/she come out normal?  I am being told so many different things, it's confusing already! I finally told my Ob/gyn yest. I couldn't take it anymore. Unfortunately, she doesn't kno much about this kind of situation & refered me to experts, which I meet with on Monday.  Monday seems years away & if any of you can help or offer advice I would very much appreciate it.

I am so glad you told your doctor.  You must realize that you are not the only one in this predicament. We get this question on this forum over and over again from wonderful caring women who want to have healthy babies.
Your doctor is right to send you to a specialist  They treat many women in exactly the same situation and will be able to manage you on Suboxone or Subutex and will over a few months taper you off. You and this doctor will need to work together to aggressively get you off the meds so by the time you are ready to deliver the baby.  Subutex is the best and safest way to manage addiction during pregnancy.  It allows you to taper yourself safely and quickly off narcotics with "minimal" withdrawals. I put minimal in quotations because it is not going to be fun, but pregnant women go through a lot unpleasant and difficult things for their unborn children. This will just be one of them.
Suboxone and Subutex are both commonly used medication to help pregnant addicts stop using and have been found safe to use in pregnancy to help mom stop her addiction.  It is certainly far safer than continuing to use the narcotics.  Please see you doctor or midwife ASAP.   Good luck to you.

Hey girl, Im a mom of 3 and I am also an addict.You cannot stop taking your pills untill you see a doctor that can help you get on a program. I used all through my first preg. painpills, My oldest son has a.d.h.d.They say they dont know if thats why. But Ill almost bet it is. And trust me it was hard raising him untill I got him on the correct meds. My girl I was on a drug called SUBUTEX. Its a safe drug replacemet for painpills. Your baby can die from detox. So Dont stop taking ur pills untill you find a doc. My last baby I was on methadone. I donot suggest that. It was hell for me and my baby tring to get off of. My Vinny is two and I can still see the withdrawl (withdrawal) effects from it. Your best bet is find a SUBOXEN doc that will give you SUBUTEX..GOODLUCK..keep in touch.
