need help to get off methadone

need help to detox of methadone have been on this med for the pass 4 years  100mg, a day for a  painfull rotator cuff.have no health insureance.now there have generic.why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine  generic .and start my treatment detox  at home.  i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.   thank you    john

Sounds like you have a plan. Did you discuss it with your doctor? Does he feel comfortable managing your buprenorphine taper? I think you can do it. You have to remember that it may be tough for a few days, but it will keep getting better. Good luck.

I would wait until your down to at least 20 mgs of methadone, switching to buprenorphine might be harder on such a high dose. DETOX and lower 5 mgs a week of your methadone until you are under 10 mgs then go on a low dose of buphrenirphine for a month and you wont have as much pain.
