pregnant & taking morphine & clonezepam.. & scared!

I have just found out I'm pregnant with first baby, about 6wks! When I was trying to conceive I went to the doctors and asked him to reduce my medication as I didn't feel it was doing me any good but I didn't tell him it was because iwe were trying for a baby. I was on 10 tabs a day & on a daily morphine patch called butran 30mg. So I managed to cut down to one clonazepam a day & reduced my patch to 10mg, ( was the worst few weeks of my life) although I have done this for the baby, I still feel so guilty incase I am increasing the chances of a miscarriage or problems with the baby when its born. Please help, I haven't told my doctor yet. Just me & partner incase we miscarry. Thanks. I forgot to mention, I have fibromalygia (fibromyalgia), scoliosis & in severe severe back & leg pain. Thanks again in advance ..

Ok, you got to get control of this situation and quick. First, you must realize that you are not the only one in this predicament. We get this question on this forum over and over again from wonderful caring women who want to have healthy babies. Second, you must talk to your OB/GYN. if you don't have one, find one.  A midwife group is maybe even better.  They treat many women in exactly the same situation and will be able to refer you to a physician who will be able to manage you on  Subutex or Butrans (it the same drug) and will over a few months taper you off. You and the doctor will need to work together to aggressively get you off the meds so by the time you are ready to deliver the baby.  Subutex or Butrans is the best and safest way to manage addiction during pregnancy.  It allows you to taper yourself safely and quickly off narcotics with minimal withdrawals. Hopefully before your third trimester you will be drug free and happily looking forward to a birth a healthy baby.  Clonazepam is contraindicated during pregnancy and you need to stop it IMMEDIATELY .You need to quit smoking as well, (if you do) because it leads to decreased baby weight and higher incidence of early labor.
Butrans and Subutex (buprenorphine) are not morphine, it is an opioid receptor agonist/antagonist are both commonly used medication to help pregnant addicts stop using and have been found safe to use in pregnancy to help mom stop her addiction.  It is certainly far safer than continuing to use the narcotics. If you need it for long term pain management, it may be possible for you to continue taking it through the pregnancy and still deliver a healthy baby who is not in withdrawals an delivery. Please see you doctor or midwife ASAP.   They need to be aware of the situation and work with you every step of the way. There is no reason why you should miscarry because of these medications. Good luck to you and let me know what happens.
