Hydrocortisone Once a Day

Hydrocortisone Once a Day

I have Hashimoto's and take 25mcg of levothyroxine. When I take it I feel awful so my endocrinologist ordered an ACTH stimulation test. My basal cortisol level was low...only 4, but it increased to 20 at 30 minutes and 24 at 60 minutes. I still feel sick so she decided to prescribe HC once a day for me for a replacement dose. Is this normal protocol?

No... HC has a short life so normally one divides the dose into two with the bulk in the morning and then a small amount in the afternoon - for example 15/5. Usually the afternoon dose is not taken after 3 or 4pm.

This can vary with people though - some people need 2.5mg at bedtime to sleep! Other people cannot sleep if they have any near bedtime...

So, I guess I should ask her what her reasoning is behind the once a day dosage. Here we go again!!
