Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Test

Hi, I have a question and need some help please. I don't go back in to see the endo for another two weeks but finally after 3 weeks they have given me a copy of my labs. I had the 1mg dexamethasone suppression test and on my labs it does't give an actual value. It just has two columns for in-range and out-of-range and the following is listed in the out-of-range column

cortisol am speciman <2
acth <5

What on earth does that mean. The nurse won't tell me anything over the phone and I'm not sure if that is "normal" or not.

That test is for Cushing's syndrome.
The ranges for the labs usually do not apply as the ranges are for normal testing and they don't have a range set in the labs, sadly, for post dex but it would be greater than 1.8.

I would however suspect that your level of ACTH is so low that it is lab ERROR -in handling. Was it a chilled tube and did the tech run off to put the tube in a centrifuge or did she put the tube in a bin? If bin - lab handling error!

You suppressed which to a good doctor shows pituitary involvement (possible) but to a bad, they will just use this as a test of exclusion which it is not, and tell you that you are fine which most likely you are not.

I suppressed on all dex tests and had Cushing's and I know tons of people like me. BTW your tests show out of range like you have Addison's.
