high dhea level

by suzcat522, Oct 21, 2009 06:22PM
I have high dhea level of 1688. I have had an Mri of adrenal glands. and they were normal. I do have high anxiety, what else could cause the high levels. I also had ovaries scanned a few months back and all was normal. My last pap smear was slightly abnormal. but gynecologist said it was nothing because I am hpv negative. any idea would greatly be appreciated

Adrenal scans are... well... inacurate at best. I had MRIs, CTs and whatever of my abdomen and specifically of my adrenals that all said they were normal.

The day before my adrenal surgery, my CT said my adrenals were normal. When removed, they were both enlarged, and one was nodular.

The CT a month after my surgery also said my adrenals were normal.

This has happened to many of my friends as well as me, and if you research it, you will find medical papers on it as well.

However, anxiety to me would point to cortisol, not DHEA (dhea raises estrogen and testosterone) as high cortisol raises DHEA so that indicates Cushing's syndrome - and you just may not have all the other symptoms yet but it would be wonderful to get treated before your body gets damaged.

I had pituitary Cushing's. Had pit and adrenal surgery.

Thank you so much, I will do more research on this. I have ANOTHER endocrine appt. soon. Hopefully this time we will figure it out. I do have major anxiety, nervousness, heart palpitations, take Xanax on a regular basis. I wonder if that has anything to do with Cushings?

Anxiety is a symptom. The med will not (or at least not that one) cause it. Steroids will cause it.
